View Full Version : Suffolk Life tells the truth

This weeks edition of the Suffolk Life has an editorial that everyone should read. For some of us it is old news revisited, but well worth reading. The editorial spells out what is wrong with school districts all over Long Island, and how us taxpaying schmucks are being taken for a ride by school boards and teachers unions who use scare tactics to get voters to approve their ridiculous budgets.
Let the taxpayers revolt on Long Island begin.
VOTE NO!

It's scare tactics 101 basic course for all school board members and administrators.
Tell the people if they vote no they will be the cause of losing all these wonderful programs. therefore when kids are on the streets takiing drugs and stealing it's your fault for voting no.
Of course the teachers union will spout the same rhetoric, cause a no vote may affect their members and contract negotiations.
The biggest problem is that school board members are afraid of their superintendents ire. What they fail to realize is that they are his or her boss, and can order him to reduce the budget without affecting the children
I know we did it and held the line on on taxes at the same time increasing opportunities for the kids.
Not only do they co-opted by the supt., but also by the teachers union. They must be able to stand up against these thugs and their threats, and hold firm their position. alls it takes is to have a spine

I can remember swearing I'd never pay $1 a gallon for gas. Now I'm bracing for $3. I suppose that's the school board's fault too.
You aren't believing this stuff are You? This rumor board ought to be sponsored by the NYS Assembly. What a line of nonsence.
nervous taxpayer

not all the tax problems are teacher driven, but most are
each time a teacher threatens a student that all these wonderful programs will be cut what they really mean is that the teachers union won't be getting dues from teachers who are not working.
all of these additions to these schools are jobs programs
smaller class sizes = more teachers = lower scores.
look at sports. not in school but the pro's.
with a few teams each team has many great players. with many teams each team (except the yankees), has many mediocre players at best. even in high school, sports programs cut players to make their teams better, these players are the children your tax dollars are going to support. we kill their self esteem for a districts ego. the same can be said for music, drama and most other wonderful programs that teachers and districts use as leverage to threaten students and taxpayers.
all of your schools administrators are products of the teaching system. not from all walks of life as it should be.
this is not to attack the average teacher or even a poor teacher , however this is to explore a culture where a person is protected against all else (did you ever try to get you child out of a bad teachers class, it does not happen and your child is ridiculed for going from an A to a D average, and yes it often is the child but never the teacher).
while i believe a teacher should have extreme protection
in their endeavorers to preform their job, i do not believe the school systems have the right to infect societies children with their socio-political views (example: teacher announcing to his kindergarten class he is marring another man, and yes it has been done).
if a teacher has all of his students fail, why is it always the kids?
we are paying quality tax dollars.
we have a right to quality in return

I live in EI. The school board says the raise is because of insurance increases and pension increases for the school staff. If we defeat the budget, the only ones that suffer are the kids. How true is that? Of course we don't want to go back to austerity (I remember the stigma of those days), but how do we get the message across to the board that enough is enough? We cannot afford to live here anymore. We voted a Conservative to the board last year, but nothing changed. What is the answer?

Not only are you a moron, you are a hypocrite too.State mandates and employee salaries/benefits are responsible for 95% of the school budget leaving just less than 5% for the kids.By voting no you will be saving a whopping total of a two six packs of Pabst Blue Ribbon per month, which I am sure is your drink of choice.Give the kids a break...remember this...they will ultimately decide where you spend your final days.

Hey Senior Citizens... the "I got mines" who turn out in force and blindly follow the advice of "and Why Nots" to turn down our school budgets -- how about WE get to vote on YOUR Medicare and Social Security?

I overheard some selfish parent on line when voting say "How can anyone vote down the budget when their kids are in school?" She then said as soon as her kids finish, she will vote no on such matters.
We live in a selfish world. The kind of world where teachers, who claim to be "all about the kids" would rather see programs cut, colleagues fired, and sacrifices made by others made rather than them fore going mandatory raises and benefits that are usually far better than those of the taxpayers in their community.
In my community the school budget portion of my taxes has risen 50% while inflation has gone up a mere 15% in the same period. You may want to continue to just throw money into this kind of a situation, but any one who can think logically can see that something needs to change. I have children and voted no. If things keep rising as they have I and many others cannot afford to live in my community! Blindly approving budgets out of a fear your children will miss something is shortsighted.

Teachers Unions and School Boards are ADVERSARIES in negotiations. NYS Legislators and Teachers Unions are the partners.
Except in Roslyn
02-04-2005, 09:20 AM
Collective bargaining should put all school boards, unions and to some extent the state legislature in advisarial positions.
However-
Why did ER insist on negotiating a new contract a year in advance of the previous contracts expiration?
Was it to "negotiate" w/ FT's puppets?
Hmm very plausible. It was if nothing else a sweetheart contract.
Is everybody happy?
The RTA is VERY Bizzare.
Is it true that ER's husband either is or was on the RTA payroll?
Why yes it is!
Very Bizzare.
Teachers - don't question the RTA or ER - Your carreer is certain to be destroyed.
Other questions-
What is DRT Solutions? Dr. T?
Why, when parents became critical of ER on behalf of a teacher, was that teacher made to suddenly disapear?
Is it a coincidence that the teacher in question had also written a report citing very specific financial inappropriation?
Pay attention to that one - If it comes down to a hearing it will be public and a can of worms is certain to be opened.
Mr. Helme - The entire Roslyn community needs a Judge Landis. It can be you. You have a wonderful opportunity to help brilliant students, faculty and their parents. Sir, end the suffering, make Roslyn totally honest. No it is not now one of the 10 best school districts in the US because it lacks moral integrity. It can be made to be the best. Yes, it will cause pain to do so, however you are in a position to be a great man and do great things. Do not drop the ball. Do not help cover up. Coming clean hurts once. Prolonging the aura of dishonesty causes never ending problems.
But don't worry - everybody appears to be snoozing - maybe it does'nt matter.

2005 board elections 2005 ???????????????????????
LOL Til it Hurts
03-07-2005, 06:16 PM
Yep, except for Roslyn.
Somehow overlooked is the fact that while thefts continued until 10/04 the sitting board was in control. I'm sure the standard line is they did not know. No one ever takes responsibility. It is time for the State to take over. All seats on the board should be up for a vote.
Great idea!! We'll never see corruption in Albany or Washington dummy!
It would be very difficult for people to steal who have not had the opportunity to set-up a system of theft. If they know they are only going to be there for one year, they would not have a real opportunity to take advantage of the situation.
This way Roslyn could hold elections for a very needed agressive board, and Central Administrators could be interviewed and reviewed at a pace that would allow for intense investigation regarding backgrounds.
Since this paper does uncover many a scandalous story, there are plenty more in other towns. The Brookhaven JJ LaValle corruption is #1. The scandal at Setauket FD, Mt. Sinai, Terryville, Centereach etc the list goes on and on. Lets not forget our wonderful schools and the waste of money there.
They could make a huge name for themselves if they just start snooping around more.

Dear Rock
Besides being arrogant in your posts, it is obvious you are on the receiving end of this taxpayer rip off, otherwise known as our school districts. Please don't respond I already know all the answers you have to give, and they are all self serving. As if the teachers, and administrators actually care about the kids. Pleaseeee. Just watch all of them around contract time as the foam begins to flow from their lips. But it is never their greed, oh no its always albany. Do yourself a favor , and try if you can to educate yourself on school budgets. Then look at the salaries, and benefits paid.
ps The school Boards are equally to blame. Problem is many of them are on receiving end as well (ie spouse of teacher, or teacher in another district) You scratch my back I'll scratch yours.
