Walt Whitman

A violent dispute has erupted between teenagers in Huntington Station in the past week: a student was knocked unconscious in a hallway of Walt Whitman High School, his home was sprayed with bullets and pelted with a brick and two others were arrested for assault, police said. Suffolk County police said they had received tips the violence was gang related, involving members of the Latin Kings and a local group called South Side Posse, or SSP. Etc Etc. In Newsday 4/18/04
This is not the Long Island I grew up on. How can the principal be responsible for this? Town officials bare some responsibility in this and so does our federal government. For Shame.

If students are in a gang then take them out of school and put them in prison where they belong. Then if their immigrants deport them. This is ludicrous that taxpayers must foot the bill to try and teach foreign gangsters who only disrupt our kids education and put them in physical danger as well as the school districts staff.:">
I guess its time to discuss the real problems with Huntington Station. The root of the problem should be discussed here, since it cannot be discussed anywhere else, for fear of retaliation of the people who live in the hills, far away from the problem.

Levy another bs artist. He wins the Dem primary by claiming to be tough on immigration in Farmingville, and then tells the Germans in HS, he would authorize the SC Police to check for immigration status, as Federal Law allows and other states do already. Now we have illegals from El Savador destroying a community and where is our boy Levy??
All these pols are cut from the same cloth, fear that Newsday might say something bad about them. Instead, for my $11, 655 in property taxes I get to send my kid to St. Anthony's. Where is Fat Frankie and Steve Israel touting their wonderful revitilization of HS. Lets see Stevie Israel stand in front of the Day Laborer site which caused most of the problem. Too bad O'Donough wussied out, he would of taken the battle to the so called "conservative Dem" Israel..

Just stop your BS rant about immigration and how we should handle the 'gang problem' that 'exists' in Whitman. If the Board of Ed would take a stand of "don't comply,it's good bye" attitude, the situation would quickly improve.Dump the present board and bring in the 'new blood' that's being offered......it can't get any worse.Finally.......it is time for the Kaden/Dillon Empire to be crushed!!!!!!!
Immigration Bull Sh--. Oh Yeah- Where do you live wilted?
Head of South Huntington School District said years ago that large influx of foreign students was bringing in disruptive problems and higher education demands due to language problems. They said town was involved helping the rich landlords in the area. All this directly affects my property taxes to increase ,wilted. If you don't believe me look at the town records for 28 West Hills road. Look also to see what town officials were saying and you would know whats destroying your school district. It's certainly not the board of education or the high school principal. They are both being used as scapegoats for corrupt town policies in housing. Wilted probably like the others of his ilk lives in LLoyd Harbor and West Hills on 4 acres of property.
How many of you remember gangs like MS-13(salvadoran)Latin Kings etc? when we went to school? How many murders have they committed on the Island?
When you have 6 families renting out rooms in one house and their kids go to school ,who makes up the financial difference....no wonder school taxes are out of control
You will see hundreds of idle Hispanic males walking the streets and standing on corners. And this isn't even near the day laborer site. Who do you think is supporting these people and how many do you think resort to crime to feed themselves and/or their families?
If our school districts want to know why they have a problem let them come here and take a look.
One school board member who lives in a nice area of town doesn't see this. But the businesses that are owned by this school board member ( who is a very liberal Democrat I might add ) uses mostly cheap immigrant labor. Something immoral about all of this.

What school board are you talking about? I don't think South Huntington has a very liberal school board member?

PAXIL LAWSUITS (http://www.classactionsettlements.org/lawsuit/paxil/)
I believe she sits on the Huntington schoolboard. I don't know her name but from what I gather she is a bleeding heart liberal when it concerns immigrants.
But from what I hear she owns many businesses in fast foods. She also lives nowhere near Huntington Station.

It is unfortunate that most of what you what you posted as humor is truth and that is sad.A statement will be made next Tuesday by voting down of the budget and the removal of a present board member and a denial of a former one getting back onboard.New blood will win...we the parents will see to that.

You're so right PTA,fresh air is needed. This Board AND the Superintendent lied to us about the removal of a much endeared principal and we will express our displeasure next Tuesday.First,a NO vote on budget, secondly, the removal of a present board member, replacing him with the youngbloods...and thirdly, the demanded resignation of the Superintendent.Trust and truth is needed and we get neither.
Sorry mom, the budget will fail. thanks you did your job.
and saved us seniors a lot of money so we can stay next to our children.

It's obvious that some of you don't think your kids need rules or parents. And most of you look pretty white to me. Stop blaming the blacks and hispanics. You have plenty to be ashamed of yourselves. Grow up, get your kids some manners and pass the school budget for the kids who are actually in school to learn.

From what I've seen here and at the other posts South Huntington needs some serious help in the form of many changes.Angry residents, incompetent administrators, corrupt Board of Ed,gangs and disguntled teachers.Real Estate agents must be reeling....and I thought Brookhaven was bad.....yeesh.

Kudos to Board, Admin, parents, students, and community for seeing problems and addressing them. We were wrong for ever doubting you.

Things are better. Day time security still needs work. Too many ex-cops with cop mentalities. They are rude to the parents and the kids. Things can still improve. And there are still parents with their heads in the sand.

The only time school security would need a sector car would be in the wee hours is when S.O.(sleeping officer) Abu falls off his chair and hits his coconut.

Have no fear, Sgt. Spats is here. He will take care of Abu, and then eat the coconut.

You're nuts! Geoff Touretz was the best principal this district ever had. He was the essence of a class act in everything that he did for South Huntington. If the Board and Central Office had taken care of him and given him what he needed there is no telling what the high school might have accomplished.
I taught at Whitman for over 25 years.....he was the best.

And what did the monster give YOU? LOL! I actually attended this fine icon of public education back when we had a real principal. I met the new guy and think he's ok too. You must be one of those loser teachers. Mr O'Farrell didn't put up with them so I can see why you'd object. Group hug. funny.
Peace Out

And there are still parents with their heads in the sand. If there are too many ex-cops with cop mentalities that are rude to parents and students why do they hire them in the first place... you seem to have all the solutions, how about this one.

According to police estimates over 10,000 MS-13 gang members on Long Island.
How many are roaming the halls of our school district :?:
