COPE primarily worked on identified-community problems; speeding vehicle complaints, drug use and sales, prostitution, youth disturbances, downtown or village areas, etc. They also attended community meetings and met with residents to hash problems out. They worked closely with school groups and met with the kids. COPE was an active command who's summons and arrest stats outnumbered most others.

All we do now is answer 911 calls after a problem develops-insurance reports.

dont confuse writing 5 summons a day and holding yourself out on a v/t so as you are 28 with working hard.
dont confuse clearing a meal and poaching 45s from your neighboring sectors with working hard.

There is no way anyone who is or was a PCT CO can stand by and say that COPE wasn't very valuable to them not only for stats but for dealing with all the community complaints that each CO gets along with a ton of other assignments that can't be handled effectively by patrol. The fact is that they can hurt us, they intend on hurting us and there is little we can do right now to stop them from injuring this job and all of us further. Can you speculate on this question? If you guys are in arbitration, why is Levy taking pot shots at you now? I think he is getting very close to violating fair labor standards for negotiations. What is the purpose of doing this if the arbitrators come down with a decision? Is it a sign of weakness on Levy's part?

You are wise to advise that the cops should sit back and WAIT, at least until the arbitrator renders the decision - there isn't much you can do about it anyway.

when did standing up for yourself become a metaphore for "chest thumping"? did the pba bully steve when they endorsed him? he ran unopposed,but they didn't have to endorse him on his 2nd term. and did you think they would have left us alone when dormer claimed he could run this department with 1200 cops like it was in the seventies? if anyone was the initial bully,it's been steve since he was a legislature back in sayville. and for the record,a reaction is not the same as panic. do you think if we ignore what they are doing it will go away? we can't do anything to prevent it,because we don't know what they'll do next,so that results in a reaction. you say to be strong, well that means stand up and remain erect,like a man,at least if you lose, you went down with some pride.
