Why do the residents here need to have an in-house transportation dept? I am sure 90% or more of local schools contract out to Huntington Coach,Laidlaw,Bauman or Suffolk Trans. The cost of personnel/benefits/unemployment/OVERHEAD!!! etc, etc, etc all comes out near even in the end.Yeah sure, they'll hand us the..."We have control over who drives our children" schtick but if history here tells us.....we'd be better off.
Also, this would stop the proposed expansion of the bus depot behind the high school which if completed would have a negative effect on the aquafier which is located on the protected land there.

One must think it's more expensive than having department within school district. And you know who your drivers are.
Don't forget the district has to put their buses someplace. If not at Whitman or expansion at Silas then where?

Should the district do a complete transportation bid...providing we have a competent Purchasing Agent,,the buses are not in house and the drivers go thru the same state ID check.Everyone knows the biggest cost is bennies and here is a way to save us some tax dollars.

After seeing the debacle over the bus garage and seeing the board president on the news.....one must question whether all the negative posts about him and his fellow members are true.My question is....how much have we paid to the architecture firm? Two sets of plans...numerous meetings with community.....and to just say "Maybe we'll just pay the $400,000 we anticipated saving." Well, doesn't that comment make the taxpayers cringe? Maybe change is needed in South Huntington? Can you say INCOMPETENCE?

You maybe be right naked truth but it's really only a small piece in a much larger puzzle. The town is really hurting the two school districts in the Huntington Station area. Ask those school districts how much of the towns housing programs for the poor is intentionally steered into those two school districts. There not going into Cold Spring Harbor,Dix Hills, Harborfields etc. Just Huntington and South Huntington school districts. Thats all of the towns section 8 HUD housing going into just two school districts and the towns other six school districts have none. There is available housing in those districts if the town wanted to make it easier on the tax payers of Huntington and South Huntington school districts but they won't. And you would think with the government allowing illegal aliens to reside in the area that the state and federal governments would grant us some extra aide to take care of their needs including education but thats not going to happen either.

WE MUST CONTINUE NOT TO LET THE SITUATION DIE. HOLD THE TOWN ACCOUNTABLE!

what does one have to do with the other

Very simple, Vader. When you put hundreds of Section 8 housing in our once great school district, then not enforce our zoning laws, or worse, allow the slumlords who own them to house dozens of illegals in them ( look up 22 West Hills Rd fire) then the entire educational community suffers. If a child does not speak English, lives in squalor with no room at home to study, how is the rest of the community going to solve that? We all have to pay for this.
Steve Levy has the right idea. Close down any single family house containing multiple families of illegals.
As far as the bus depot, another bad decision by the gang that can't shoot straight. What does this make now, 4 misses? Turn a farm into a grease pit after the property across the street and next door was saved by the community and turned into parkland. Good work gang.

This board of eds MO is simple.Let's present the most absurd to the taxpayers and after their architect pals H2M get their $100,000 cut the taxpayers will vote no.This of course is what the board is aiming for. Why?It's not too hard to figure out.
King Kaden or his marionette Tom Shea will then issue a statement that "we tried to find other areas for the bus depot but sorry Silas Wood..screw you".

Sounds like an interesting idea to me. A Huntington Manor substation would be good on Oakwood Road and the buses would be good there too.

Eitherway the only one making good will be Joanne the hotdog vendor.

Maybe we should let Mayor Petrone give the land to his rich buddies over in Cold Spring Harbor who want to use it as a private country club for their kiddies while the kids in Huntington and Huntington Station make due.

GOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!

The TOH is planning on building a multi-field soccer complex on this lot complete with lights, stands and concessions.Fortunately,Jon Cooper has the correct vision as to where the towns population is heading and is willing to welcome and accept all.
There will be no bus depot or HM substation as neither are needed.

Can't accuse Jon Cooper of ever making bad decisions. Suffolk County is proud to pay more for designer gas now that Jon explained to us why he legislated the requirement. A soccer field for Cold Spring Harbor will be just fine here in Huntington Station. We have big hearts.

After watching News12 tonight I am embarrassed.Tom Shea? Find another job! The entire Board of Ed....resign!! To have Stevie B taking a camera hit so to continue your plot to shove the bus depot down the Silas Wood residents throat is unforgivable.Try as you wish........we're just getting stronger. What pathetic fools.

Tommy was unavailable for the News12 taping regarding the Molenhoff property yesterday because he was admitted to The Marionette Center to have his strings fine tuned after a very busy year.He is expected to be released by weeks end and will be well recovered for the opening of school.Tommy's a trooper and we are all fortunate to have a such a pupp.....oops....Superintendent.

Right Decision

The Mohlenhoff property should at least be looked at. We can always use the extra acres for fields. 3 acres for a bus garage and 6 acres for fields not a bad idea. The bus garage will probably do no more harm than years and years of insecticides and other chemicals used on farms.

Maybe we should let Big Fat Frank Petrone give this land to the people of Cold Spring Harbor and forget about the kids in Huntington Station and South Huntington? Maybe Big Fat Frank knows he will get a lot more money from Cold Spring Harbor since he is up for re-election in November.

Maybe we can put our hopes into Stuart the Loser Bessin who is running for Town Board in Huntington. He can't find one issue to run on and no one knows him so he will use this issue to make a name. What a freakin loser! Geter a life Bessin!!! You couldn't find South Huntington with a road map!!

God Bless the plan! If it goes down at least it was explored.....

Please. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaase. Not Besen. He is an egomaniac of the highest order, with nothing but true contempt for opinions other than his own. He's the only guy that ever gets anything done anywhere in the galaxy. Just ask him, he'll tell ya. Stick to torts in G.C... Either the Republicans better get their act together or SOMEONE, ANYONE'S GOTTA RUN AGAINST HIM. Take your 15 minutes of local lore and go away.

i'm sorry but can someone please explain why its appropriate to include the workings of either the Republican or Democratic parties in school board races. I thought this was about children and education. Let the political parties ruin their own messes I don't need them ruining everything for my kids too.
