Common sense will reign now in the Senate chamber.

Now if Dean can move forward on school consolidation, triple my STAR rebate and get rid of Joe Mondello, I just might return to the Nassau GOP.

It appears that Tom Golisano is the new chairman of the NY State Republican party. Twice the clout as the current one, at half the tonnage and zero the patronage.

Golisano is now a resident of Florida, or did you miss his big bon voyage press conference several weeks ago changing his residency. Leave Mondello in for another term he has the financial connections to make sure the GOP will keep the majoirty this time, and unlike Golisano he still is a resident of New York State.

Is this fat joe posting? You lost the entire state at every level. Just leave before you embarrass your memory.

Modello has the financial connections to make sure..............what?
He lost everything in the State and took care of his fat self in the process.
When will anyone associated with the Republican party realize that a bunch of fat old white guys will never keep control of this party? The demographic has changed and the party remains the same. Nothing will happen but more losses until some power sharing happens.

I think the Republicans should have waited until 2010, and be returned to power by the people. It is a shame that the GOP had to lower themselves and pick two Democrats that are under indictment, and atleast one seems to be on the edge.
This is a desperate act by Skelos who lost the majority by running substandard campaigns last year and again picking candidates that were not marketable. This coup could backfire on the GOP, either way they all look like a bunch of empty suits in Albany. We anxiously wait.

You make a great point. They now need to show real change not the same old. If they can show a bright difference versus the tax & spend democrats, they will win seats. It's just a coalition to stay in power, they are gone for good in 2010.

The uber-white republicans in the state senate overthrow the black majority leader. Yet another example that racism is alone and well here in NY.

how about this?

Why can't it be that Muuhhh Muuhhh Muh Muhh--- Maaalcolmmmm Smith is simply just incompetent? Plenty of stupid white folks out there. Quite a few stupid black ones too I imagine... folks is folks, right?

But that isn't the point here. Smith was elected majority leader. Regardless of how incompetent anyone thinks he is, he was elected. And to have a group of white male republican senators, with a scant amount of help from a hispanic and white democratic senator looks very racially motivated. You may not think so, but it does.

I thought the election Barack Obama made us a post racial society. And Smith was elected by his peers in the Senate on what initially was a party line vote. Am I detecting a sense of "entitlement" perhaps?

This has everything to do with a select group of 31 whites removing a minority. They fact they were joined by an ethically challenged hispanic is immaterial. And there is no sense of entitlement on anyone's part. This is clearly a case of racism towards Smith. If Smith were white, do you think this would happen? I think not! I know not!

We need to get Reverend Sharpton, Reverend Wright and Reverend Fahrikan to Albany immediately to counsel these people!

Ok, So Mayor Dinkins was a lousy mayor but we can't say that because he's
black. And Governor Patterson is an incompetent but we can't say that because he's a black blind guy. And Malcolm Smith can't handle the job in the legislature, but nobody can say that because he's black. You know, this is really getting tired. The more you shout stupid garbage like this, the less folks are going to listen. Besides, I think you're a white guy because you are looking to Sharpton, Wright and Farrahkan for leadeship, because this clearly must be a joke. Even President Obama no longer takes calls from his Pastor.

This isn't about race, and I am a Smith supporter btw. This is about two ethically challenged individuals who were upset over pending tougher ethics legislation from Smith, as well as the fact they were disciplined for their ethical issues by Smith. As well as Republicans who know they are pretty much in the minority forever will stoop so low to make someone like Espada President Pro Tempore so they can put in place measures to reduce the power of the Majority and cancel out other advantages the majority had when they were in power.

Outcry

Where's the outcry when a Republican becomes a Dommycrat. It seems it's only bad when one goes over to the Republican Party. Whites are racist if they vote for a white over a black , but when a black votes for a black instead of a white, it's not racist , it's pride. General Powell was called a "House Slave" by Harry Bellifonte when he was Secretary of State , but now that he backs BHGO , he's a hero. WAKE UP AMERICA , we're ALL Americans .or we are a LOST nation.

No, but he takes calls from Al Sharpton. He was at the Sonia Sotomayor White House announcement.

I'm convinced that these posts alleging racism (e.g., they got Corbin, Smith et al because they're bruthas) aren't the work of Blacks or leftist Whites, but rather the ramblings of racist Whites trying to stir racial animosity. I cannot believe that any black could be so stupid and ignorant as to allege racism in the Corbin indictment, Smith removal or criticism the Patterson's lackluster leadership.

What lovely language you use. You kiss your children with that same mouth?

I have no idea what your ethnicity is, but you use a racially derogative word in your post which proves the point I and others have made exactly. Racism is alive and well right here in NY.

I do happen to be white and I happen to be liberal. I have posted on this thread but not on others. And my question to you, is...So what? What is your point? Can I not have sympathy for my african american friends who are being persecuted. Why was Malcolm Smith removed? Because 32 non-black senators didn't like him? Thirty of whom are from the minority party and two democrats who seem to be ethically challenged. And why wasn't Roger Corbin charged with any crime other than not paying his taxes? A problem many people have. Even the treasury secretary didn't pay all his taxes. He got to correct them and Roger Corbin is arrested. If Roger had done something untoward other than failing to report the income, don't you think the feds would be all over him. Does this seem fair to you? Doesn't it beg the question of why the double standard, why can Geitner, Daschle and others just pay up and Roger is arrested?

And yes, there should be a solidarity march right down Hempstead turnpike where blacks, whites, hispanics and anyone else can march to show how fed up they are of this continued racism.

Another annoying white boy liberal trying to stir the shyt heard from. Corbin was also indicted for lying to federal agents if memory serves correct.
