If you want the posterchild for school disfunction look no further than Amityville.

Even with the "dumbed Down" testing requirements put in place, they still couldn't make the list of improved schools.

Dr. Desorbe, since he is doing such a good job, gave himself a nice $18,000 raise and incresed his car allowence. Are you kidding me?

Amityville keeps raising the school taxes and the schools get worse. Please tell me how this makes sense.

Why does everyone blame teachers and administrators when children don't achieve? Hasn't anyone ever considered that maybe the kids just have sub-par intellect like their parent(s)? Doesn't anyone think genetics plays just a little part here??

OOPS, SORRY! That wasn't exactly politically correct, now was it?

Genetics absolutely have nothing to do with a school systems failure to educate the children.

What are you really trying to say?

|The problem with Amityville UFSD is the School Board.
You have to be brain-dead, completely uneducated in child-development, completely inept at money management, and be a Narcissist in need of feeling important to get on the board!!!!

I does not make sense at all. The Amityville Schools are a facade for something very evil going on.
Let me tell you a little story.
There was a Laundermat down the street from the school when I was a child. It was run down and only had a few patrons. Yet the laundermat remained in business for years.
How could this laundermat stay in business in this condition and with so few patrons? Don't you know, my cousin laughed at me. That laundermat is just a front for the Mafia. They need a legal business where they can say they get their money from. (Excerpt)
So be it for Amityville UFSD

Genetics has nothing to do with innate intelligence? You're joking, right?

Coffee Kakes
05-27-2004, 12:50 PM
Genetics has everything to do with intelligence. However, there are many types of intelligence. The schools do not tap into individual differences, strengeths and weaknesses. Instead, education is a one size fits all philosophy that Early Childhood Educators abhor in their curriculum. Unfortunately, our education system is becoming more and more one size fits all every day.
Kindergarteners are doing busy work instead of play work in some schools. This is a rising phenomonon in education. The Dark Ages of Education, I call it.

Now, put DeSorbe on the unemployment line.
Brian is 57 years old and his wife 61. Yet Brian DeSorbe will discriminate against people 40+ for a teaching job!
Brian DeSorbes wife is old enough to be my mother and a grandmother to my children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yet, DeSorbe feels people 40+ (especially women) are to old to teach.
Kick this dog to the curb somebody, please?!?!?!?!

Congrats to winners Juliet and Michele for getting on the school board. And, to their campaign manager Alexandra the Great!

I think there will be some hope, now that there are two people to keep an eye on the MAC PAC at least.

I heard a rumor, though, that in retaliation for losing, the MAC PAC and friends fired 10 teachers who had supported the other team.

Tisk. tisk. Hope this gets settled out.

Retaliation, hostility, vengence, these are the hallmarks of the Amityville School Board. These people and their dysfunctional ways are the role models for the children.
You do not have to die to go to hell. Just work for the Edmund Miles Middle School, if you can take it. Amityville will never get better until the dysfunctional mindset of the School Board is fazed out.

Thanks, Patty Kakes. You are so correct.

But, remember the good news. We are halfway home.

The MAC PAC was the dysfunction. The MAC PAC ousted 10 teachers.

We just won by voting in two parents with lots of compassion for the students and staff who were also supported by the teachers union: Michele S. and Juliet Jordon-Thompson.

Now, the real community at the school can begin to understand what is happening and begin to fix things.

Previously, Stephanie Andrews would just call Executive Sessions all the time, or lock doors for meeting rooms to make bad board decisions in private.

Now, Michele and Juliet will at least be witnesses to Stephanie's most secret manipulations of the board process.

Patty Kakes

When you zero in on Stephanie's misdeeds, I hope they are made public. I am sure this is going on in other districts as well.

June 22, 2000

Alan Rothstein, General Counsel

Association of the Bar of the City of New York

42 West 44th Street

New York, New York 10036-6689

RE: CJA?s June 20, 2000 letter to President Evan Davis

Dear Mr. Rothstein:

As discussed earlier today, please advise whether you ever received the enclosed June 25, 1998 letter from Doris Sassower, addressed to you and others, which may or may not have been sent, as it appears to be in draft. In any event, since the letter reflects that Ms. Sassower had a phone conversation with you as to the City Bar?s approval of the recertification of Appellate Division, Second Department Justice William Thompson and the certification of Appellate Division, Second Department Justice John Copertino ? notwithstanding case file evidence of their unfitness in the City Bar?s possession ? and, presumably, her oral request that the City Bar retract its approval based thereon, I will add a footnote relative thereto to a superseding version of CJA?s June 20, 2000 letter to President Davis.

This superseding June 20, 2000 letter will also make NON-SUBSTANTIVE corrections of typos and grammatical errors, etc. A copy will be delivered for you tomorrow to the City Bar, at the front desk, as you requested.

Please do not threaten to have security stop me from dropping off the superseding original to President Davis? fourth floor office. Surely, you can appreciate my concern that CJA?s June 20, 2000 letter, which reflects so critically upon you as City Bar counsel, not be short-stopped from being received by the President. Strong-arm tactics to impede its delivery to the President?s secretary are unnecessary.

Alan Rothstein, Counsel Page Two June 22, 2000

Finally, it is wholly unacceptable that notwithstanding the urgency of CJA?s request for the City Bar?s amicus support and legal assistance in Elena Ruth Sassower v. Commission, contained in CJA?s June 20, 2000 letter, you want me to wait until the END OF THE SUMMER to organize the documents comprising the file of that case and CJA?s related correspondence, which you have in your possession. The upcoming ABA meetings are no reason to justify a delay of two months or more in accepting my offer to arrange those materials, pursuant to the inventory annexed as Exhibits ?C-1? and ?C-2? to the June 20, 2000 letter. Such offer was made to faciliate their review by President Davis, which, in light of the content of the June 20, 2000 letter, should be IMMEDIATE.

Aside from the fact that you have sufficient office staff to assist you in gathering together these pertinent materials, they are all probably sitting on a shelf in your office -- if your past practice is any guide. This would explain your sudden edict, which you announced during our phone conversation, that I not come into your office. As you know, I have been coming to your office to deliver documentary materials for at least several years, without objection from you. Indeed, virtually all the materials listed in Exhibits ?C-1? and ?C-2? I hand-delivered to your office, mostly in your presence.

If necessary, I will write President Davis and request that he immediately requisition these dispositive materials from you himself.

Thank you.

Yours for a quality judiciary,

Message:
I call L.I. Superintendents, 'The Screaming Meemies'. In order to cover their corruption tracks, they scream slogans like 'teacher shortage' and 'certified does not mean qualified'. These slogans are propaganda so that administrators can fire teachers and keep a high turnover, to prevent as many as possible from moving up the payscale! Administrators can also weed out those who they deem unfit as 'team players' in the corruption game$$$$$$
There is no teacher shortage. We are highly qualified and capable. It is just that most of us are not 'team players' and have to be weeded out with a fresh class of education graduates to fill the jobs every September. The cycle starts again. Organized crime. Our public schools are inundated with mob bosses and money laundering on such a grand scale, right up there with Al Capone and John Gotti.

Looking for blame in all the wrong faces&!

This is a blatant fallacy, that the worst teachers go to the worst districts.

The truth is: the worst districts have the most Incompetent and Inept school boards!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Truth:
1) Wealthier School Districts hire only Nepote's and Crony's, regardless of competence, then age and race are considered.

2) The rest of the teaching pool is then left to pound the pavement going on interviews.

3) 99.9% of the pavement pounding teachers are highly qualified and enthusiastic and know they have to work their way up the Crony Ladder. These teachers are hardworking, extremely capable and sincere.

If it is Gross Incompetence you are looking for, start with the School Boards, they control the money, hiring, and overall tone of the district. Stop blaming district failures on new first year teachers.

By the way, this mindset of unqualified teachers is putting money in the pockets of $$ hungry inscrudable Administrators: Education Consultant Firm$

GOALS

To expose and prevent teacher abuse...

"When injuries result from worksite exposure to chemical substances, the offending institutions are compelled to introduce remedies. When the injuries originate from toxic human behavior, no less should occur."
Harvey Hornstein Brutal Bosses and Their Prey
Make teaching a FRONT OF THE BUS profession in the spirit of Rosa Parks. Attract and keep high quality young people into this profession.
"All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind are convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth."
Aristotle
Pass down the wisdom of seasoned veterans of teaching rather than discriminate against older teachers who have much to offer new teachers. Help protect against age discrimination in terms of driving older teachers out of jobs as well as in hiring older teachers.
"The only thing we learn from history is that we do not learn."
Earl Warren
Make children the focus, rather than the front.
"Let us have our faith that right makes might and in that faith let us to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it."
Abraham Lincoln
Unite parents and teachers to take our schools back. Overcome the propaganda that makes parents mistrust teachers and vice versa. Make schools accountable to parents, while professional teachers remain as decision-makers. We must develop trust.
"Never take anything for granted."
Benjamin Disraeli
"A harmful truth is better than a useful lie."
Thomas Mann
Force administrators and state boards to operate legally and stop violating the rights of teachers and children.
"Honesty is the first chapter of the book of wisdom."
Thomas Jefferson
Alert the federal government to state improprieties and engage their agencies, including but not limited to, the FBI, to make our schools accountable.
"Indifference to evil is our enemy, for it negates everything that exalts the honor of man."
Elie Wiesel
"No ray of sunlight is ever lost, but the green, which it awakes into existence, needs time to sprout, and it is not always granted to the sower to see the harvest. All work that is worth anything is done in faith."
Albert Schweitzer
Expose the neglect, and possibly conspiratorial role that teachers? colleges and universities play to protect their corporate interests. Professors constantly talk about teachers as decision-makers when the true model is teachers as soldiers. These higher level institutions need to be accountable for either preparing teachers for schools as they exist, or for influencing change. Neither is being done currently. They too should be obligated to reform education or suffer diminished enrollments. Presently, they either pretend not to know or take little or no responsibility in finding out where they are really sending their graduates. Ignorance is not an excuse; they are culpable by ignoring reality, protecting their financial interest, and enabling our schools to harm our children.
"I hope I shall always have firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man."
George Washington
Expose the NEA?s role in keeping teachers from having rights, and thus power.
"Think of the life you are missing by not having the courage to be free. Thank God for the courage to think innovatively, to feel unique, to speak with conviction, to act differently."
Rabbi Shoni Labowitz
"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened."
Billy Graham
Encourage media to report the dilemma of teacher abuse. At this point the position media takes is that each case is so isolated, and there is no distinguishable pattern to indicate the necessity to report teacher abuse. As in the case of child and wife abuse thirty years ago, people do not believe it could be possibly happening. Contact newspapers as well as news magazine shows to get exposure via all types of media.
"There is no wisdom like frankness."
Benjamin Disraeli
"Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Expose the corruption within our public school system and work together with dedicated leaders to reconstruct the system so that our schools will operate to the best of their ability. Dispel the myth that schools are dysfunctional merely due to lack of capital, teacher shortages, self-serving parents, spoiled children, or any reason that projects the blame away from the corruption in place.
"The essence of government is power, and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will even be liable to abuse."
James Madison
"One falsehood spoils a thousand truths."
Ashanti proverb
End institutionalized child abuse: Teachers are teaching with invisible burqas and children have the ability to see those "invisible" burqas just like dogs can hear those unheard sounds.
"You shall not abuse any widow or orphan. If you do abuse them, when they cry out to me, I will surely heed their cry..."
Bible: Hebrew, Exodus 22:22:23
"No legacy is so rich as honesty."
William Shakespeare
Provide services for abused teachers to strengthen their resolve and fend off abusive administrators.
"It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can do only a little. Do what you can."
Sydney Smith
Maintain a list of reading materials and books pertaining to educational reform, including links for purchasing relevant books.
"We are healthy only to the extent that our ideas are humane."
Kurt Vonnegut
Keep updated links on the Internet that relate to relevant information.
"I believe that every teacher should realize the dignity of his calling; that he is a social servant set apart for the maintenance of proper social order and the securing of the right social growth. I believe that in this way the teacher always is the prophet of the true God and the usherer in of the true kingdom of God."
John Dewey, Pedagogic Creed statement of 1897
Serve as a balance to the propaganda now distributed by our districts.
"You come to know a thing by being inside it."

"Alexandra Gilmore, a former Massapequa resident who sued the Amityville School Disrict following a controversial election in 2002, was sentenced to three to six years in jail Feb. 26 after pleading guilty and being convicted of swindling an elderly man out of his life savings. Gilmore had been charged with grand larceny as a hate crime and admitted to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a 93-year-old Queen's man. Prosecutors said Gilmore "preyed upon him" because he was elderly and ill.

Gilmore, who now lives in Pittsburg, pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced in Supreme Court Queens to two counts of second degree grand larceny for stealing the equity of a home owned by Artee McKoy of Jamaica, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. She also pleaded guilty to stealing the home he lived in by orchestrating a fraudulent sale. ..."

Two of Malawi's most senior judicial officials are arguing over whether a new bill includes a provision that outlaws breaking wind in public.

Justice Minister George Chaponda says the new bill would criminalise flatulence to promote "public decency".

"Just go to the toilet when you feel like farting," he told local radio.

However, he was directly contradicted by Solicitor General Anthony Kamanga, who says the reference to "fouling the air" means pollution.

"How any reasonable or sensible person can construe the provision to criminalising farting in public is beyond me," he said, adding that the prohibition contained in the new law has been in place since 1929.

The Local Courts Bill, to be introduced next week reads: "Any person who vitiates the atmosphere in any place so as to make it noxious to the public to the health of persons in general dwelling or carrying on business in the neighbourhood or passing along a public way shall be guilty of a misdemeanour."

Mr Chaponda, a trained lawyer, insists that this includes farting.

"Would you be happy to see people farting anyhow?" he asked on the popular "Straight Talk" programme on Malawi's Capital Radio.

He said that local chiefs would deal with any offenders.
