The auditor did not discover the missing funds!!!I heard a vendor discovered school purchases going to a personal address. After calling the school A/P dept they said there was no problem here.They asked for PG who also denied any problem. The vendor supplied info to the school auditor who gave it to the Superintendent. I heard a while ago she was fired. Next thing I hear the missing $$$ is growing. Questions to ask. Is the person doing the audit now from the same firm who missed it in the first place? I'm glad to know that I am not alone in finding a menial worker/ Tom L. that is not a maintance worker. He is sent to deliver envelopes/ or one envelope to the admin. bldg. He is sent on coffee runs throughout the day for his bosses. I have heard that he was sent to deliver furniture to Tom G's house on school time with a school truck. I think this is a gross overpayment of salary. He gets paid about $50 grand a year to do these menial tasks. Should'nt we dig a little deeper as to the waste of taxpayers dollars?

Yes MR. T.L was sent To Mr. G's daughters house with furniture that was made at maintenance Bldg, with district lumber and funiture made on school time.

Dr. T has done a wonderful job running the school district for our kids. The Roslyn Graduates are afforded great college opportunities as well as promising futures. One of Dr. T's trusted employees used his professionalism and friendship against him to hide her horrendous crimes. And he along with many others are accused of everything under the sun. I am surprised that no one wrote to say they saw Dr. T taking candy from a baby. That's how out of hand this forum has become. I have lived in Roslyn for many decades. I have seen changes, growth, and people come and go. The one thing that has remained constant is the dignity and outstanding reputation of our community. According to the Wall Street Journal our school district is #4 in the nation, and #1 on the Island. We are a community of educated, successful people who have established goals for our children in order to perpetuate our values, our mixed heritages and our visions for the future. We have supported our schools as they in turn have expanded and developed to meet our goals.
The Superintendent has remained constant in his philosophy of meeting the needs of all children, believing in their potential for learning and insuring that programs are designed to meet those needs. Under his leadership we have seen growth in technology, foreign language in the lower grades, emphasis on the "total child", inclusion, community service, and he has maintained an open door policy so that ALL residents are welcomed for discussions,
opportunities to be seated on committees, solving problems our children sometimes create, and occasions for input for the planning and development of our schools, He has put into place administrators who know how to administer, teachers who have a passion for teaching, all for the good of our children. Our high school graduates 100% of the student body and most go on to outstanding colleges and universities. And he most certainly has not forgotten us, the senior citizens, the library, and all of our community organizations. The average longevity of a Superintendent is 5 years. He has tripled the number because we, the residents, have admired his intellect, appreciated his dignified approach and applauded his sincere interest in our children and our community at large. He became one of our community many years ago. There has been consistency in the Board as well. Our neighbors, friends, good people with fine ideology, interest in the students, their families, our shared goals, work endless hours with the Superintendent
to keep Roslyn at the top of the ranks.
This recent episode of betrayal and deceit by ONE individual,
mind you, ONE individual who orchestrated her tentacles to extend across the district and penetrate the very core of our district, has caused a new atmosphere of suspicion, intrigue, and disaster. The leadership WE chose and supported made a decision to protect the reputation of the district - no cloak and dagger - they simply tried to AVOID what we now have in our community - chaos! Their INTENTIONS were PURE.
That I believe because of their track records. Many have forgotten what came before the tirade of bullies and cowards who wrote letters without signature. If they were so knowledgeable about alleged events, why wait until now?
They are in fact accomplices to these alleged crimes for not stepping forward and allowing the mass destruction to take place. I am ANGRY at the vocal people (and you are a minority) who desecrate MY HOME TOWN! It took years of work from those of us who were the PIONEERS of Roslyn, and the consistency of our current Superintendent and the Board to maintain the unity and progress we have cherished.
I'm angry because our graduating seniors leave us with a stigma they will carry with them because of the indulgence some of you require simply because you "weren't told".
Well, now you've been told and look at what you've done with the information. SHAME on you. YOU brought the shame on this district. YOU are worse than the culprit who was dealt with and continues to be dealt with and who would have been dealt with more firmly if the cowards had spoken up at the right time! And now our phantom author(s) has reduced us to the lowest form of common denominators by publicly trying to blacken the "private" life of a Dickens's Scholar, a man of dignity, caring and warmth. Where are those he has helped for many years along the way? Those people whose children were led down an educational path they would not even SEE in some other districts. Where are YOU? Where trust is lost, ciaos begins. At least did not hide. If the administration did right thing from the beginning this would not have reached to such a point as it has now. The facts are what they are, And the real truths hopefully will come out in the end and yes maybe I do need therapy, but i have not committed a crime. The original poster noted the articel and not the report - so that is ehre I was coming from. However in reading some of the simple problems the auditors missed it seemed like they were fudging their basic work anyway and if they would have doen their job they would have identified it.

Think of this next time you are asked to pass a budget hyped as being " for the children."

Not only have the thieves robbed the district, but there are new allegations. They may have padded their final average salary (without board approval) to increase their pension payouts, therefore robbing the NYS Pension Fund. The state retirement system is scrutinizing FT and PG and retired administrators MS and MM!

Even if they go to jail, they will continue to collect their NYS pensions.

Annual pension payouts:

FT : $161,112

MS: $135,600

MM: $ 88,044

PG: $48,708

Newsday reported last summer that Pamela was 1.7 million dollars in debt! At least that is what she told the court. It is very interesting to see that PG’s motor vehicle report shows that she bought a brand new Chrysler a few weeks ago to go along with her Jaguar (Plate # DUNENUTIN).and her 2 water scooters.

Board & Superintendent Give "State of the Schools" Report
The Board of Education held a special meeting on February 3 for the purpose of presenting a "state of the schools" report. Many local civic, educational and religious leaders had been invited to attend and participate in a community discussion about the many necessary changes instituted since last summer to help the district recover in the wake of the financial scandal.

Board President Stanley Stern opened with a summary of the broad areas on which the Board has focused, including: development of the school budget for 2005-06 and the establishment of a new Budget Advisory Committee; formation of a Curriculum and Instruction Committee to address educational issues; creation of a Citizens Advisory Audit Committee to provide an additional layer of ongoing community oversight of the district's spending; hiring special counsel to pursue many avenues of redress against those who have defrauded the school district; and continued close cooperation with official agencies investigating the wrongdoings of the past, notably the Nassau County District Attorney, the New York State Comptroller and the New York State Retirement System. Mr. Stern thanked the many members of the community who have offered their time and expertise to help address these and other urgent matters facing the schools.

Cliff Saffron, as the Board's liaison to the Board's special counsel, Farrell Fritz, reported on the numerous legal actions being undertaken. Civil proceedings against Pamela Gluckin, the former Assistant Superintendent for Business, were initiated last year and resulted in $1 million being placed in escrow which, in time, can be recovered by the district. The District Attorney's civil forfeiture division is seeking to attach even larger sums. In the case against the former superintendent, Frank Tassone, $300,000 has been attached to date and the Board will seek to attach additional assets. Farrell Fritz is diligently tracking any attempts by the accused to dispose of assets. For example, an attempt by Gluckin to sell a mortgaged property for far less than its market value was stopped and a previous, much larger bona fide offer was researched and the prospective buyer contacted. This action alone could potentially yield at least $300,000 in additional recoverable assets.

There was a post last week from someone called the insider that indicated FT's gang would soon be gone. Certainly it is a simple fact that members of the garage, CP, FC, DS, AA and prehaps others, were members of FT's gang of people who, if they did or did not share in the take, performed unethical and/or illegal actions at FT's direction. Is Roslyn served by having people in positions of importance who at the very least compromised their values.
If they compromised their values, and its logical that they have done so, would'nt it be very plausible that they are continuing to lie in order to protect themselves from the ramifications of previous misdeeds?
All Centeral Administrators and district policy people under FT's regime must be always regarded in that light.
We need an influential, honest leader to step forward in Roslyn.

Dr. P announced his retirement at the same Board meeting that he recieved tenure for his position. While I am certain that this is part of an arrangement that would permit CP to work in another district, obviously it appears that a deal took place. No one applies for, or would be hired for a job that they only intended to hold for three years.
I would perfer to think the Dr. P was honestly a victim of circumstance in his professional actions. He never appeared comfortable.
If he participated in cover ups on behalf of external pressure, specificaly ER or any people suspected to have commited criminal or acts in which they misused funds, he is now in a position to be of great service to Roslyn.

There was a teacher who wrote a report about missing money, who had parents asking questions about ER, who was complaining that kids in other districts had substantialy more equipment and better learning environments. This teacher had in his hands a report that if allowed to become public would have raised questions about FT lying last February. FT would have had to resign then - No questions. (The DA has this stuff) ER, (when she had been confronted in a meeting w/ FT and parents) reacted by having CP write a false report about him. They packaged that together with a personal letter he had written to another teacher after being hospitalized for alcoholisim (the teacher hospitalized himself.) (By the way that personal letter he wrote has been read at several AA meetings- there is no big deal - The teacher is willing to read it if and when there is a hearing to his students and their parents -
And if there is a hearing it will be public
Rigorous honesty wins out every time. The point is that it was personal and was exploited to fabricate charges. Once these charges were brought, FT and his people hid behind them and in effect isolated the person, and the truth, refusing to give straight answers to parents who asked questions.

The teacher can not speak for himself but there are so many parents who know what happened how can this go on?

The kicker is that when this is revealed FC, CP, & ER will be exposed as unethical and possibly corrupt individuals. They could be very afraid of this.

Something more important - through the help of other alcoholics and working the AA program this teacher has had a spiritual reawakening and rediscovered his family. He is never going to stop fighting this injustice. When push comes to shove that teacher is going to, and is anxious (to serve as an example to others in trouble) to admit to foolishness and having fallen prey to alcoholisim - that is part of his program - the administration and union will have to admit to having colluded to commit calculated dishonest actions to maintain power and hinder a criminal investigation. In doing so they have caused this teacher immense pain, and exacerbated health concerns.

this stuff with er has been going on for so long because of the layers of protection she is afforded by the teachers who support her. If what has been alleged about er is true, then the union members have sold their souls to protect her, for one reason and one reason only: because of what she has gotten the union at the "negotiating" table. Most members are willing to turn their backs to unethical behavior (or is it criminal behavior?) as long as personal "gain" in the form of benefits or salary increases continued to their level of satisfaction. They equate er with these personal gains. They fail to understand that almost anyone with a loud mouth could have "achieved" the same things simply because the past administration wanted to keep the union happy and content so they could continue their rape of the district. er's past boasting of her wonderful, solid relationship with "Frank" as she would call him, was only that way not because "Frank" was more than happy to keep her happy which meant the union was content and happy.

So, now we have a rehash of stuff she is alleged to be involved in...and nothing was done with it by union members the first time this stuff was brought to light on this thread. What's different this time? Nothing. Same layers of support. Same cowardice. Same low standards of morality. Just keep the personal gains coming. The status quo can be a wonderful thing for come people. They all deseve each other.

I am sorry for the teacher that was mentioned several posts back. I am thinking the person should have legal representation. Let me get this straight: ER negotiates well so the teachers look the other way. Who cares what she does as long as union members get salary raises and increased benefits? Unfortunately, this attitude sounds like human nature. Sad, but true.

School District May Have Hard Time Recovering Losses

ith the release of a long-awaited state audit on Wednesday, prosecutors and local officials have an intricate map tracing how $11.2 million was looted from the Roslyn school district. Now they face the difficult job of recovering the money.

"There shouldn't be a dime that doesn't come back to this district," said State Senator Michael Balboni, a Republican of East Williston, N.Y., reacting Wednesday night to a new state audit that described eight years of brash and sweeping fraud. "Not a dime."


But Nassau County prosecutors and officials from other school districts that have been victims of fraud suggest that Roslyn faces a long, hard slog to get its millions back.

Some of the money has evaporated, gambled away in Las Vegas or spent on Caribbean vacations, expensive dinners and flights on the Concorde. And hundreds of thousands of dollars were invested out of state in homes in Pennsylvania and Florida, which the authorities say is likely to complicate efforts to recover the money.

So far, officials in the Civil Forfeiture Unit of the Nassau County district attorney's office have filed $4.4 million in claims against the three people charged in the scandal: Roslyn's former superintendent, Frank A. Tassone; the former assistant superintendent for business, Pamela Gluckin; and Ms. Gluckin's niece, a former district clerk, Debra Rigano. All have pleaded not guilty to charges of grand larceny.

Investigators have frozen bank accounts, put liens on homes and sent letters demanding that tainted money be returned to prosecutors. Robert Nigro, chief of Nassau's forfeiture unit, said prosecutors would seek more money as the criminal case unfolded, closing a $7 million gap between what was taken and what prosecutors were already trying to recover.

"There's a lot of grist for our mill," Mr. Nigro said.

The school district is also suing its former auditor, Miller, Lilly & Pearce, for $12 million, accusing the now-defunct auditing firm of negligence for allowing the thefts to go undetected. It has filed a $1 million lawsuit against Ms. Gluckin. The district is also fighting to get insurance money to cover part of the theft.

Stanley Stern, the school board president, said Roslyn had hired a Uniondale law firm solely to go after the district's missing millions.

The audit released Wednesday, by State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi, described thefts and spending that circled the globe. It accused school officials of using school money to cover $1.1 million of cash withdrawals on personal credit cards and to pay tens of thousands of dollars on college loans and for artwork, vitamins, electronics and a pool cleaner.

The district's money trickled down to nearly 30 people, many of them friends and family members of Ms. Gluckin, Mr. Tassone and Ms. Rigano, the audit found. The audit said that Ms. Gluckin received $4.6 million in school money; Mr. Tassone, $2.4 million; and Ms. Rigano, $334,452.

So far, prosecutors have filed claims totaling $2.5 million against Ms. Gluckin. They have taken out liens against her houses in Bellmore and West Islip, and have a lien on her husband's business, Spin City, a laundry in Holbrook.

Ms. Gluckin's Bellmore home, where she lives, is now up for sale, and a sale of her West Islip home for $1.45 million is pending, prosecutors said. She has already agreed to deposit $1 million more into a trust held by her lawyer and lawyers for the school district, according to prosecutors.

The millions seized from the defendants will remain invested or be put into escrow accounts until the criminal cases are settled, prosecutors said. Ms. Gluckin, Mr. Tassone and Ms. Rigano will get their money back if they are acquitted. If they are convicted or plead guilty, the money will be returned to the school.

Prosecutors have filed an order of attachment seeking $1.3 million from Mr. Tassone. They said they believed he had $660,000 in cash and stocks and $498,000 more invested in accounts held by his two sisters.

Finally, prosecutors have filed a claim of $581,051 against Ms. Rigano.

Roslyn may get an idea about its future from the travails of the South Worcester School District in Massachusetts, where the former assistant superintendent of business spent $5.4 million on gambling and his horse stables. The scandal erupted in 2000, and five years later, the district has been able to recoup only $500,000 from the former official.

The superintendent, Steven Mondor, said the district survived the scandal by being honest and contrite with residents. It took out a $5 million loan to cover its losses and asked that voters not punish students by voting against school budgets. All of its budgets have passed, and the district has paid off $3.6 million of the 10-year loan, he said.

I hope we do not lose this forum as a result of the unacceptable language being used. Yes these people are innocent until proven otherwise. But - we should not allow people who are reasonably suspect to remain in positions where they can still implement administrative practice and or conceal crimes of their own or others.

ds, js, fc, cp, aa should not be on school property until the conclusion of all investigations and the three board members in question should resign at the next meeting. It is inapropriate that any district employees with a personal/professional concern be available to have even casual input in the daily activities of the district. That is an opinion. And that is all it is.

This posting place is important because it allows for an exchange of ideas. Probably students should read these postings and observe what is going on around them.
Because no one has to acknowledge their identity here they also do not have to "own " the thoughts they express.

As someone who works in another LI school district and has followed this thread from the beginning, my advice is get em out while you can before they do any more damage. I read about all of this here on this thread long before Vitallo broke it in Newsday. Keep up the good work, people. you meant to say "Bye Bye" not "by by". When you get into adulthood you will be judged in part by how well you can string a few words together. It doesn't mean your not as "good" as the next person, or that you don't have something valid to say. BUT, it does have an impact on how seriously people will take you. It also doesn't mean your stupid, maybe just too lazy to learn the language. Either way, it makes a difference. It's also not "the genes" as some posters like to say. That REALLY rubs me the wrong way.
