What a joke the leaflet I got explaining that my school taxes are still below the Nassau County average. Who the hell does this board think they're trying to bamboozle.

We pay our taxes to buy the very best for our kids - good schools, nice clothes, the best tutors - and then we complain. The clothes get more expensive. The teachers and tutors want more money. We complain. But we still want want want. So we blame the school board. After all - it's gotta be somebody's fault. Can't be the teachers or the unions or the wholesalers. Must be those greedy grubby volunteers spending all their free time on the school board. Yeah, that's it. They're just in it for the - uh - what is it again they're getting? Grief, no free time, abuse. Yeah, greedy SOB's.
If you really didn't like them you'd vote them in again.

I never saw such ignorance in my life.
If our schools were not successful, you all would be complaining that your home value was too low and call for a changing of the guard in Syosset.
It takes money to make money. In order to build a world-class school district filled with a plethora of classes and extra-curricular activities, the board needs money. The taxes are an investment. An investment in that it improves the value of your homes and an investment in that the children of this district are well-rounded individuals.
I invite you to check out the Syosset HS Course Selection Guide- you will see all that the district offers- 4 yrs. of Japanese, 3 yrs. of Russian, 3 yrs. of Latin, AP classes, courses through Syracuse University, etc. See the sports program with 100 teams, the clubs like the Debate Team, and DECA which are nationally-ranked. Our district is a unique, world-class institution. Dr. Hankin works tirelessly for the students and community. She deserves every penny. Furthermore, a reason for her higher overall salary is that she has a condition which does not allow her to drive. Therefore, in order to conduct the people's business, Dr. Hankin requires a car and a driver.

Dear GovenorParaki,
I am writing in support of Comptroller Alan Hevesi’s request for $5.8 million to hire 89 additional auditors for school audits.
Governor Pataki’s decision to under fund this necessary safeguard for the 49 additional school districts that employed the same auditing firm as the Roslyn School District leaves these districts open to wide spread financial fraud and corruption. In addition, all districts in New York State are vulnerable to the same mismanagement of school budgets. Without proper funding and oversight, no school system can feel secure that their money is being spent appropriately.
Many New York State students are already faced with poorly run and under funded schools. An independent auditing process with state oversight is vital to ensure that all monies are being spent on educating our children.
I am opposed to Governor Pataki’s $2.9 million dollar cut, and urge you work to re-instate the total amount requested by Comptroller Alan Hevesi so he has the proper funding to hire additional auditors in the wake of the corruption scandal that has tainted the Roslyn school district.
Very Truly Yours,

Please cut and paste to email or letter. This is a plea for Governor Pataki to include the 45.8 million needed for the Scool District audits through out Nassau and Sulfork School Districts.. Don't end up in a scandal catch it before it gets worse. If we join forces we can win.

For more of the same, vote for the three women PTA council slate,
hand-picked by Dr. Hankin.
For independent Syosset voices on the school board, vote for
Ed Adrion, Michael Cohen, and Richard Joseph.

You must be correct on that assumption. Had they been, they would be able to speak/write it in Chinese and Russian.

YES THAT IS TRUE. SYOSSET SCHOOLS WANT OUR CHILDREN TO BE LEADERS IN THE WORLD. DUE TO THE CHANGING CONDITIONS, OUR DISTRICT HAS FOUND STUDENTS MUST BECOME MULTI-LINGUAL, THEREFORE WE TEACH THEM A PLETHORA OF LANGUAGES.
G-D, I LOVE THE SYOSSET CENTRAL SCHOOL SYSTEM!!!!!!!!! WE RULE. WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WRITE-TRASH BETHPAGE OR WANNABE JAP FROM PLAINVIEW?
So sorry to disappoint. I am from Syosset. Have been for years. Went through the System from Pre K to HS. Graduated, went on to college, and became a professional.
My kids today are part of the School system, which I pay dearly for. Which my parents paid dearly for their children and today for their grandchildren.
I fail to comprehend the need to teach these languages (or any for that matter) to elementary school children. What was so wrong with introducing foreign languages at the Jr. High level?
Isn't is hard enough for children to grasp English, let alone a foreign language being taught at the same time? Shouldn't the District be focusing on English FIRST?!?
Stop with the enhancement that children get from learning the characaters of Chinese and Russian because they are "different", and it allows their minds to expand. ALL the students that had an education through Syosset schools in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's are no less of a person today because we were not taught Chinese and Russian.
For those of you who support this program, ask yourselves this question - Do you feel less educated because you were not taught Chinese and Russian in elementary school?
God Bless the Superintendant and the rest of the Board. They have effectively pulled the wool over everyone's eyes to make you think programs such as this one are needed.

so much misinformation. first of all, your premise it's "hard enough for children to be grasping English" is flat-out wrong. as someone who's been part of the Syosset Schools Family for so long, you should know how great we are at getting down the basics. If you know anything about language acquisition, you know it is done EASIEST when one is a child.
I don't have the time now to show you the research. Luckilly, as we are both members of the Syosset Library, you can go on-line to search academic databases for the numerous journal articles that talk about young children are most apt at learning language.
Signed,
Syosset's #1 Fan
You have obviously missed my point. I'll repeat it again.
I'm not disagreeing that teaching children foriegn languages is improper. My point is the relevance behind these languages at such an early age. I've both read and been told that the need for the two is for recognition of foreign symbols since these are not predominately displayed in this Country. However, I am no less of a person today for not having learned those foreign symbols while attending Syosset Schools.
Alas you should also be ashmed of yourself for not knowing how to spell "luckily".
Maybe you need a quick lesson in Chinese or Russian to fix this grammatical error.
