Police Officers all over know these cards end up on ebay and elsewhere. When you get pulled over and show a card now they ask you who signed the card, where they work, how long they've been on, what's their rank, what's your relation to the officer, and sometimes even ask you the officer's phone number to confirm he/she gave you that card. A PBA card without the holder knowing the answers to these questions is nothing more than a piece of plastic. The PO stopping you will most likely confiscate the card from you; and there's nothing you could do about it.

And in the end, the "courtesy" extended may perhaps be a call to the LEO who gave the card to the motorist. People tend to exaggerate the benefits extended to holders of these "association cards." After all, why would any cop want to encourage dangerous behaviors by a loved one by giving them a "get outta jail free" card? Heck, the Sheriffs Department (not the union mind you) gave away associate deputy badges to influential civilians, for years. The deputy's union did (and continues to) distribute association cards just like every other union and fraternal organization.

True .

Right, just like the Suffolk County PBA has associate members, (rich benefactors with special priviledge cards), and give signed cards to hundreds of knuckheads a year who do "special" things for the PBA.
