Manorville's 13-35

I heard Manorville got toned out last night for a "23" in the "Vincinity of"- any one knows that means a working fire. But to make matters worse- THEY COULDN"T GET OUT! Signal 3 x2, toned out again as a 13-35- and they STILL couldn't get out! Signal 3 to Mastic, STILL NO RESPONSE-!!!! Eastport had to pick up the job!! Save the money on elaborate fire houses, parties, beer, and unnecessary toys and start by instituting paid departments. SOrry if your feelings are hurt, but people ARE DYING, Property is being destroyed- thank god that was a construction house, what if it was "Occupants within? It's not all the vollies fault, but it's time to swallow some pride and realize that now we are paying the price for turning LI into an economic drain. People are working two jobs and can't afford to volunteer the time. We need to face reality, long gone are the days where everyone worked at grumman, lived comfortably, had affordable housing and every other person was a volunteer fireman. Long Islanders are dying and can no longer afford to be without a paid fire rescue service. Last night's 13-35 is a perfect example. Don't even get me started on the rescue calls that get signal 3'd 4-5 times a night.

I do not know what went on in Manorville, but you seem to. I just wonder what department you volunteer for. With the change in economic trends on long island it is becoming more and more difficult for people to give their time. Unless someone outside of local government comes up with a viable solution to the decreasing number of people volunteering nothing is going to change. The vollies on long island are doing the best they can. And it is a good job. If you don't like the system, join and change it from within, or come up with a realistic solution. And to just say that a paid system HAS to be put in is not realistic. The cost to the tax payer would be to great. It is a lot more money then people think. Not only do you have pay checks to pay, but now you get into medical, retirement, sick leave, uniforms, ect. ect.

You seem to have a lot of time to monitor the radio every night apparently all night long too. Why not go to Manorville FD or Ambulance Co. and volunteer your time there??? I too work two jobs, and am a single parent. I have still made the time to volunteer my time with EMS. Perhaps you too could spare six hours/week of your time for the community you seem so worried about.

Funny thing is that Manorville will only take in firefighters that live in Manorville and not on the border. I know of a couple of guys who wanted to volunteer (some were members of other departments) and were told that the "old timers" do not want any help from outsiders. Yet they cant even get out fo rtheir own calls and this one was around 0320 in the morning.
Why the policies of some old timers shines over the fact that depts need help is beyond me. These guys did their part way back when. Times have changed and it time to open up the doors for bnew members. We are a dying breed boys!

Hey guys I also was up all night listening to the radio, but that's part of my job. From what I heard the original call was for a woods on fire almost a mile away from the house under construction that was actually burning. All of the mutual aid calls was for tankers and RIT team. The fire was on a dirt road in a new development hence there are no hydrants there yet. I don't know what you heard that I didn't but it sounded fine to me. There were coordinators on scene from both the 5th and 6th division setting up the staging for tankers and it sounded good over both bands. Let's face it, we will never be paid...leave that to the city fd.

Listen you guys keep telling yourselves that, until it is your house or your parents house. Manorville FD is a cluster. They have been bad for years. They are always blowing 3's and then rolling with 2 maybe 3 guys. I do listen all day, its my job. I also volunteer for a FD next door. I know for a fact. You guys can say whatever you want to make yourself sleep better at night, but the truth is that it is depts like Manorville and Ridge that will be the downfall of volunteerism in the county. i was at the 35 and i think that manorville did a great job with what they had. the fire was not put out by eastport manorville put it out. center moriches eastport ridge wading river were called for tankers due to the fact that there were not hydrants on that block. mastic brought an engine to the scene. And the house was fully invlolved when manorville pulled up. Manorville did a good job in setting up comand relizing the resources they needed and setting up tanker operations if you have so much to say that you should volly like the rest of us.

as a capt. of an engine co. in suffolk, i would like to express my concerns about an entire house being lost to fire when the alarm was so early in the morning. there is no excuse of the lack of response that your dept. had to a 35. when the first chief on scene relayed to dispatch of a confirmed 35 ,and dispatch has to reactivate 2 or 3 times for dept. response, that is piss poor.wheather or not you have members pissed off at each other or at your officers or chiefs, like i read in other postings in this forum plays no bearing. maybe the chiefs or line officers of your dept. need to step it up a notch, and revamp the dept. or consider changing your dept. s.o.p's.i have been involved with my dept. for 14 years, have been a line officer for 7 years. in my time at my house we have never lost a house due to fire. training is key, keep on top of the members,keep them involved,and make them feel they are wanted. your old timers should consider taking in members that are on the borderline of your district. maybe they something of interest in your dept. rather than the district that they live. lastly i hope to not find any kind of trash talk about the people whos house was lost, they are very close friends of mine. stay low, and stay safe my brothers , and sisters.

when the chief got there he reported a fully involved house it was under construction and he imediatly declared exterior ops. the fire who knows how long it was going before it was called also fueled by natural gas was a loss when they went 21.

The fire was FULLY involved upon arrival, you could see the glow down the block. The cause of the fire was caused by a malfunction in the furnance, it basically was blowing fire out like a blow torch. Unfortunately, the I-beam was directly above the furnance, the house collapsed pretty soon after arrival. The house was unoccupied, and in a rural area. There was no gas valved ANYWHERE near the house, the natural gas fueled the fire until the line was located and dug up to be capped off. In case I didn't meantion the closest hydrant was about 2 miles away. THERE WAS ONLY TWO ENGINES IN FRONT OF THE FIRE...MANORVILLE'S! Eastport, Ridge, Center Moriches, and Wading River was strictly for tankers. Yes, Mastic sent an engine, one because they dont have a tanker, and their engine was stationed a on the rear block to protect the woods. Manorville did a great job, and I agree, if you can sit up and listen to scanner...why not commit and join up?

Another problem was that the initial "in the vicinity of " call was to an intersection through the woods behind the house. No one could get to the house from that location because of the dense trees. The units had to go quite a distance around to get to the street the house was on. and again the house was off the paved road down a dirt road. I grew up in Nassau county where there were hydrants every few hundred feet. Those of you guys in Western Suffolk county have no idea of the differences in tactics using tankers and having long long hydrant lays.

Doesn't matter...Out of the five special bus riding retards living next door to me...who used to vandalize and destroy their neighbors property...go at each other with tools like hammers and large saws...throw dog crap at the other kids...abuse animals...all while their stay at home mom was too busy to mind them because she was doing the NY Times crossword puzzle and they could do no wrong...(She's a head case too)...those retards that give retards a bad name...their are Vollies and still stupid...Plus their breeding.

Here's the definition taken word for word from www dictionary.com
I'm sure the Webster version is the same.

firefighter

n : a member of a fire department who tries to extinguish fires [syn: fireman, fire fighter, fire-eater]

Also notice it includes the synonym: Fireman

I've tried to find the reference to paid or volunteer in that official definition but, wouldn't you know it, I can't. If you look up FIREMAN, it also makes no reference to paid or volunteer. I guess that makes it official. A fireman is a fireman, paid or volunteer. Never be persuaded to believe anything different.

What I was MAINY replying to was the phrase in a previous post that stated "you are not considered a fireman". That's one of the most rediculous things I've ever heard. By the way, when I do tell someone I'm a fireman and they ask where and I tell them my department and they say "oh, volunteer", I very proudly tell them "That's right." There's no shame at all in doing something for free that others won't do unless compensated monetarily.

couldnt pass a civil service test? is this guy for real? You see the kind of retards that pass this test and get a job. I know a "proffessional" firefighter that I went to high school with and he is a retard!! I mean that litearally he took all special ed, self contained classes. self contained means less than 12 students woth two techers, and thay stay in the same class all day (mostly caise they couldnt open a locker). If this guy passed a civil service exam, than im sure anyone could. Personally, I also took it, and turned the job down. I figured I would rather make an actual salary and be able to own my own house instead of being forced to rent like all of my "professional" firefighter friends, who need overtime to feed their families. Try taking a test that actually test your knowledge, not your ability to read.
Also, dont act like "the rock" is the best training facility in the world. Its just as much disney land as yaphank. (although i dont ever recall seeing a big net under a ladder-truck at a training at yaphank)

Another problem was that the initial "in the vicinity of " call was to an intersection through the woods behind the house. No one could get to the house from that location because of the dense trees. The units had to go quite a distance around to get to the street the house was on. and again the house was off the paved road down a dirt road. I grew up in Nassau county where there were hydrants every few hundred feet. Those of you guys in Western Suffolk county have no idea of the differences in tactics using tankers and having long long hydrant lays

I heard Manorville got toned out last night for a "23" in the "Vincinity of"- any one knows that means a working fire. But to make matters worse- THEY COULDN"T GET OUT! Signal 3 x2, toned out again as a 13-35- and they STILL couldn't get out! Signal 3 to Mastic, STILL NO RESPONSE-!!!! Eastport had to pick up the job!! Save the money on elaborate fire houses, parties, beer, and unnecessary toys and start by instituting paid departments. SOrry if your feelings are hurt, but people ARE DYING, Property is being destroyed- thank god that was a construction house, what if it was "Occupants within? It's not all the vollies fault, but it's time to swallow some pride and realize that now we are paying the price for turning LI into an economic drain. People are working two jobs and can't afford to volunteer the time. We need to face reality, long gone are the days where everyone worked at grumman, lived comfortably, had affordable housing and every other person was a volunteer fireman. Long Islanders are dying and can no longer afford to be without a paid fire rescue service. Last night's 13-35 is a perfect example. Don't even get me started on the rescue calls that get signal 3'd 4-5 times a night.

WERE DO U THINK THERE GONNA GET THE $$$$$$$$$$$$ TO PAY US???? U THINK SUFFOLK PD'S GONNA SPLIT THERE BULLSHIT SIT IN OUR FIREHOUSE'S LIVING IN UP $100,000 A YEAR SALARY?? ID LIKE TO SEE ANY COP SAY THEY'D BE WILLING TO SPLIT IT WITH US!!!

just try and apply for membership to Manorville, you will get turned down, has happened to me 2 times only after It hit the news paper did I enter into the ranks of Manorville, and I was a former member of that Dept, and 2 others before that 20 years total, also know of many others being denied the right to volunteer for Manorville but yet the board of fire Commish. feel the need to deny members the right to volunteer. A lot more to come, let them know I am on the war path, Semper Fi .

[Manorville resident]

Manorville does not take in members with out them fighting for the right to volunteer and after they get voted in by the membership the Commissioners turn the would be member down, so you ask why does no one show up at a 13-35, because we all don't fight for 3 years to become a Manorville Vollie, most give up and then there is a shortage of members, you can blame this all 100% on the Commissioners, look at Selden, soon to be Manorville!

I looked into joimimg Manorville and was told by one of the past chiefs that you need to live in the district in order to become a member. I live on the border and he said the old timers in the dept are set in their ways and they and the board will not take me in .

ANd they say they need members as well. Figure that out!

Well it looks like the same thing all over with the commissioners. No one coming to a 13..35 .. We have someone that was voted in by the membership and the commissioners say no to tim. Did the commissioners go to the 13...35 i don't think so. And you say board line .NO ONE COMING TO FIGHT FIRES. THIS MAN WANTS TO HELP THE TAXPAYERS AND YOU WILL NOT TAKE THIS MAN IN TO HELP. Well maybe NEWS DAY will look into this, Then you commissioners will be just like SELDEN. You five boys don't know what you are getting into. You boys think you are god . But don't f..... with the DEVIL JUST THINK NEWS DAY ......

You commissioners should be helping the taxpayers by taking in new members.

just try and apply for membership to Manorville, you will get turned down, has happened to me 2 times only after It hit the news paper did I enter into the ranks of Manorville, and I was a former member of that Dept, and 2 others before that 20 years total, also know of many others being denied the right to volunteer for Manorville but yet the board of fire Commish. feel the need to deny members the right to volunteer. A lot more to come, let them know I am on the war path, Semper Fi .
