Now that is a shame. She (new Commissioner) promised the world to the people of Setauket. Are the taxpayers ready to vote on another bond issue to build a 4th firehouse? How many do you need? Are you having that much trouble getting to the south side of 347 when needed? Come on now! How many Chiefs did you lose during your elections? I heard they (BOFC) were trying to get rid of some.

actually, an additional firehouse is needed, if you look at their district, the area south of 347 is quite large. And if you're asking about reponse time.. THink of this, have you ever been on 347 between 4 and 6 pm? On the weekends? Getting there is a problem, but also getting to the fire house is an even bigger problem.

Well Don't your trucks have Opticon? There is alot of traffic on 347 and the Setauket area is huge but to build another one on the south side is a bit much.

Yes, trucks have opticom, the only thing that will do is change the light. That doesn't move motorists out of the way. Also, if there is anther vehicle that tripped the system first, thier light will change, and the other responders wont.
But I'm also talking about response times from that area to the firehouse. Members obviously don't have opticoms in their vehicles. (which would make the system useless at that point) People barely move out of the way for red lights, they move even less for blues. So, the 10, 15 minutes it takes you to get from 347 and wireless to 347 and old town, it takes them the same amount of time in most cases.....
And It shouldn't be a huge station anyway, house an ambulance and an engine or whatever.

Hey I'm all for doing what needs to be done to protect lives. I was really just answering the person who is obviously mad that the Chief's wife won the Commissioners spot. I too am a volly from a neighboring FD who has trouble getting to the fire house in a timely & safe manner, cause we all know what we can do with the blue lights we have.

Well Mr. Leute has alot of help screwing with Setauket FD. He's friends with Terryville FD's Commissioner. Who is the MASTER of screwing with people. Just ask Pat Strebel. They are trying to make them run the same way.

The proposed firehouse south of 347 is a waste of money. Members ARE, in fact, able to get to the other firehouses in a timely manner. The REAL problem is (as is with any other volunteeer fd) is that there's the SAME handful of people that are active and they carry the weight, but can't be around 24/7. The rest of the members are scumbag what's-in-it-for-me fork and knifers. So now we'll have another small satellite firehouse that a only few people can show up to. It just won't work. PLUS, a few hundred feet away from 347 is CENTEREACH'S district. It's not as if Setauket covers miles and miles South of 347. The people that sent in the survey saying they'd consider volunteering have no idea what it's about and I can guarantee once we tell them to put their actions where their mouth is, they won't have the time commitment or the want to volunteer. Otherwise, they'd be here ALREADY.

Define timely. You really think getting to teh firehouse within 10 minutes is timely? I would beg to differ since Suffolk County's 9 minute rule for getting an ambulance to the scene. Do you think it's a great idea to have an engine wait for 10 minutes for someone to respond when there is a house fire? I don't.
I define timely as a reasonable amount of time for the situation. Me responding for a CO alarm, a toothache, a confirmed house fire, cardiac arrest, a fuel spill, or a hangnail all carry different "responses" from me if you will. I will certainly FIND a way to get to where I need to be (firehouse, scene, etc.) depending on the severity of the call. If it's a real emergency, I will get there as quickly and SAFELY as possible. The REAL problem is, like I said, that the handful (5-7) members that carry each station's workload can't be around 24/7. If the other "members" stepped up instead of freeloading, there would be no response problem. Members live in different places so naturally if they responded, they'd get there to roll. Additionally, FYI, ten minutes for an engine on scene is pretty good for Suffolk County when you have to get to the firehouse and then drive to the scene from there. Chances are it's only a total loss when the owner waits too long to call for help. Could it be quicker? Yes, but for a non in-house crew (which are great things when guys hang out at the firehouse ) it's pretty good.

How about making the public understand that if you see a blue light in a vehicle, it means that a volunteer is responding to an emergency and they should give the courtesy of the road, so they can get to the firehouse in a timely manner?
People needs to be educated on this a little more and they need to understand that one day it could be a member of their own family or even themselves that we are trying to respond to.
I think people don't give a sh-t if is not for them. People's attitud need to change. :evil:

Chief Kevin Yoos can try to continue with his illustrious career here at the Setauket FD but we all know him for the syncophantic, control freak he really is. Stop lecturing everyone else about not attending calls until you show up yourself. Stop crying foul about the duty crews until you have the forty - something duty crews you were given credit for removed from your quota sheet. Kind of funny but if you take away your duty crew points you haven't done a hell of lot this year or last, wonder why? Come on out for some calls Kev, not that I want to see you but it's probably better than standing on the ramp by myself ! Following the August Dept. Meeting, where Kevin rambled on about needing more members to respond to calls - that night while kevin was the chief on call, kevin failed to come for a call only five hours after his long winded speach.

No matter what the ruling may be, the members STILL distrust the BOFC and think they try to run the department and not the district...which they DO! Feldman admitted that he went into the red alert system, (with the knowlege and permission of the Board of Fire Commissioners), to correct an error. This fact will be available to all on September 05, 2005 when they post the entire minutes schedule from the hearings. I have trust in the District, but more importantly there are only 240 members, even if half dont trust the BOFC it doesn't count for much in a voting community of over sixty thousand. Bottom line is - Ronnie boy lied, it will be in print for all to see in September and the hearing officer's final comments point out five definitive lies Ron was caught in which eventually sunk his ship. After those lies he didn't have a chance. The final point I would make is that the things Feldman did occured in 2002 and Ron knew at that time. Ron didn't say didly squat until he was being "looked at" by the commissioners for improper behavior in his job. Then Ronnie boy decided it was time to rat out the commish. Sounds like blackmail to me, in any case Ron was a rat fink liar.

I heard pretty much the same things as the last guy. Ron guilty as hell, caught in lies and will be shown as a liar in the minutes and in the hearing officers final comments. I didn't hear that Feldman had the other commissioners knowledge or their permission to go into the call system, but I'm not surprised. The hearing officer writes that Feldman did nothing wrong. Ron also dimed Feldman out to the DA, they investigated and found nothing wrong or innapropriate. So I guess If Ron had come forward in 2002 with his complaints about Feldman it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I hear Ron is somewhere in Italy . . . AGAIN ! Hey, he got paid for seven months when he didn't even go to work who else gets that? I hope this bull just stops and goes away now. I'm not sure if I trust all the commissioners but I do Trust RL and SM for sure. Wastiwaz has always been a scammer and a liar so I wont trust him, and I dont really Know Feldman or Barber good enough to judge.

Try to look at it this way, you won't be hated any more than say - Lou Steinberg? Or hated any less for that matter. You just don't get it. I saw your most recent attempt at "changing" the Department - reference trainings. Read this next line and repeat it ten times;
YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY OUT - STOP TRYING TO MAKE POLICY DECISIONS !
Just read that over a few more times and maybe it will sink in. I don't think you'll find ten people in this Department who will be willing to wear a full uniform to give a training. This is a VOLUNTEER Department numbnuts! We cant even get people to respond to calls and you want to put even more rules in place.
Here's a new rule - HOW ABOUT THIS - THE CHIEF WHO IS ON THE WAY OUT SHOULD SHUT UP , SMOOTH THINGS OVER TO GET THE NEXT CHIEF READY TO TAKE THE REIGNS! SOUNDS GOOD.

Ahhh i see....how about THIS...You realize that even though its a volunteer department, it's a COMMITMENT you CHOSE to make and because some rules are being made to tie up some loose ends (like the fact that INACTIVE SCUMBAGS are pissed because they're required to attend an actual live burn instead of 25 people attending the B.S. LP gas at yaphank...yeah because that's real solid training right there with 4 people on the line and 21 people watching) and stop complaining when -god forbid- you're asked to do some actual work instead of showing up for free meals and easy points. We are volunteers but that doesn't mean we can't have good training requirements. Some people here haven't refreshed on basic skills in YEARS, let alone hop on a rig to go to calls and get experience. Don't like it? Good...us active members who go on calls and actually do work welcome getting rid of dead wood! It doesn't really matter to us anyway, because we're the ones (6-7 per house) who have been doing all the work this whole time anyway. You should welcome a chief that actually takes a stand for doing the right thing for the department and the public we raised our right hand and SWORE TO PROTECT even though he may be a pain in the a$$ at times. Would you rather have a do-nothing chief that's a pushover and doesn't take an active role in HIS department?? You should know the little saying that goes that the more people dislike you, the better job you must be doing....Now go on a call or clean a tool and stop complaining!

I am a longtime member, I have a lot of good friends here, and a few enemies as well. I would love to come out to more calls and do more for the Department, but I have suffered a lot of injuries in my life that continue to cause me chronic pain. My close friends know all about because they give a damn, the rest of the Department doesn't know. I retired, so I now have all the time in the world to help out, last year I started off the new year with the intention of becoming active again. I began by trying to drive the ambulance and by attending trainings again to refresh. Early on one of the assistant Chiefs made a comment to a Firefighter from my company about me, which I heard. Although he didn't intend for me to hear it, I did. In that comment the words getting rid of dead wood were mouthed. I was an active member here for over thirty years, I came out all the time and did a good job, it litterally broke my heart to hear that Chief say that, I felt completely deflated. I heard about this site from a friend at church, he asked if I knew what was going on on here . . . well I didn't. Now that I have read all these things I'm sorry I do know. I am utterly ashamed of many of those on here who have said they are members of our Department, I am further more ashamed of those who continue to berate entire the company 01 contingent and who think that they are the glue that holds this place together. This Department is held together by every moment that each person gives to the community and not by one smart ass kid who has been here six or seven years and made a lot of calls in those years.
I think the Chief should develop a quota sheet showing every call we ever made, then show an average for all those years. many of us old geezers made hundreds of calls every year from before many of you were even a though in your daddy's head. You too will get married, have children, work a second or even a third job to provide - be injured, and yes grow old. How do you want to be thought of when you can no longer continue your adept pace at answering calls? Or when you are too sick, or too old to make any calls? You all should treat the old timers of today how you wish to be treated when you get here - if you get here! If you see a guy come back around - dont say where have you been - say instead - Good to have you back, lets have a cup of joe and catch up!

I first want to thank you for what you have givien to our community. Like many members of this department i truly respect those who came before me. I do bitch from time to time about HQ which has lots of good members but they also seem to have quite a majority of the complainers. It is sad that this thread has come to this but lots of people feel they can't speak up at the firehouse, altough i dont know why. I think I love you is right when he says he'd respect them more if they did. I am married and i have children, i have worked more than one job and have suffered my share of injuries but i have been pretty consistant with my calls and i do have to go out of my way to do it. It hasn't helped my marriage but the department is important to me. I hope you don't judge those on here who are defending others and that you do judge those who are berating others. Truth Hurts 4 u goes out of his/her way to lie and attack people in the department. It is really said that he/she feels this is the only place people will listen.

Yes, i agree 100%. I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with people who are/were injured and are getting older and who can't be around as much or even at all. These people, like many senior men , were once the younger group like us that gave their heart and soul into this place to make it great. I have nothing but the utmost respect and awe for our senior men. They have many great stories and experiences that you can get out of them, as well as tricks or knowledge that only comes with experience. As long as the senior men were active back in the day and gave tirelessly for as long as they could, I have no problem. What I, and we ALL have a problem with are people who are fork-and-knifers that TAKE ADVANTAGE of the system and don't even apply themselves. They're the first ones on the freebie line but the last ones to do any sort of work. What people don't understand is that it brings the rest of us down! The "dead wood" is showing the probies that come in that this is the way it's done and you don't have to really do anything and can scam in for calls like some members that, say, live pretty much in the backyard of a firehouse. We can make this place great and have the camraderie of the years past if we all get togther and get active. If new probies come in and see all of us responding regularly and down there helping out and training and cleaning tools, they will know that's JUST THE WAY IT's DONE and we can nip bad habits in the bud. Probies that aren't up to this will soon drop out. How do you think the paid FD's have such a high work ethic and pride? It's the men leading by example and not taking the easy road out of work. To the once very active senior men that can no longer respond as much as they'd like, I (and we all) give you a pat on the back. Thankyou for laying the groundwork. It's too bad that most of the companies (aside from the 6 active members per company) nowadays don't have the pride and dedication that you all had.
