as a member of this dept. I have the right to say this, we know how to fight fires. we are one of the most aggresive depts. out there. we train our members constantly,wheather it be on weekends, weekdays, our pop up drills at any given moment. It is possible that your use to your depts. tactics and cant get past the fact of good firefighting when you see it. Why dont you try asking the chiefs out at yaphank traing center about us, or better yet why dont you come see for yourself how the proper job gets done. Until you walk a mile in someones shoes, you dont have the right to judge them.

From the looks of it recently have the best of everything, all over the place, from the professional softball uniforms, Custom trucks, drill trucks, renovations to your building, custom equipment and gear, training to the max, seen at every convention or exposition the past few years with a bunch of people. Really do good stops, as witnessed.

Their chief is just a puppet of their 2nd assistant chief, who is just in the position for the power and the title. Thier 1st asst. chief walks around like he is better than everyone else. and has no clue what he is doing.(@#%$) So from what I see Mr. Rocco why should any of your members step up and make a complaint. When your 2nd will tell you to suspend them and your other chief will just sit there and do nothing like he always does. your training sucks, and as for being aggressive, look at your 2 fires this year.

It's amazing that people who have very little knowledge about fire departments can comment and begrade them like on this website. If half of these nieve people really knew the truth behind fire departments they would have a different tune. Infact other than the occaisional siting of their trucks coming down the street you can find these guys and gals on any given saturday or even sunday and monday during the summer. What i mean by this is go to any of the fire department tracks where a good majority of long island departments come out and compete every saturday, or even sundays or monday nights when the men and women are out playing softball. So for anyone to say that these are the "priorities" of any fire dept. they really have no idea what they are talking about because they are always the ones in the publics eye. Not for nothing i don't see any body out at this time of the year trying to make kids happy like the fire departments when they bring Santa around, but i guess that is being selfish and not having their priorities straight.

Most of us refuse to understand the mission of these Departments.As a Volunteer of one of our Islip Town Departments it should be all of our mission to defend our Volunteer Department. If their is misconduct then this should not be tolerated.But for the most part this Department as many others are the back bone of our community.I never kid about the mission of our EMS/Fire Rescue services on Long Island.Member since 1970.

The racing team building...The team consists of "members" it's where they store and work on the racing trucks and socialize. They do fund raising but for the most part is is funded by tax money. It has been the spark of many interesting rumours.

Wow, holly smoke, I did not think the district TAX base had increased that much to toss out 26 Gs just for
one [1] engine. Well I guess it is going for a good cause, I mean it is a real Fire Truck [engine] Class "B" pumper.
Thank goodness it is small and fast. As it will come in very handy to respond to 12s in the club.
Can I ask a question, seeing how the "B" truck is a Real Fire Engine, what is the protocall on being qualified to operate it at a Fire scene?
Has anyone asked what else is included in the 26 Gs. what warranty or maintance goes with it. It that a complete Engine [pan to carb, or just the long block.
In which case what were the other bids submitted and by what other engine builders.

first off, know chain of command. The real problem is when little tad, as I will call him for namesake purpose, runs to the board member he is friendly with, and repeats what he has heard, and puts his little spin on things. The real question should be as why, the three ex-chiefs of this department, and current board members would overturn a decision, solely based on a persons admission of guilt? If you keep the board members in the dark regarding dept business, then they cannot intervene. With the exception of 2 members, we could use a clean slate. Is there a way we can remove a board member, and keep this in mind, they can raise your taxes at any time. What is the next major project that is comming down the pipe?

As for defending the little guy, though I am not his greatest fan, even the head of the department cannot destroy the morale. first off, while we are on the topic of ems, exchange has more bs toys then they need. What next, glider, small plane, hi-lo for that fat boy. The one thing I will agree too is there are too many buses in this area. either the districts should scrape theirs, and use it for in house alarms, or get rid of the exchange and save the taxpayer a few shackels. It amazes me though, you talk of the terrace. I buffed an motor vehicle accident in their district. explain to me why exchange seems to always roll upon their calls, with 2 or more suvs, and a bus? I also noticed that the rescue truck and pumper could not get close to the scene because of the exchange convoy. Is there room for both fire and ems, yes, but there needs to be rules and more importantly, respect given on both sides.

I cut and pasted the last post. My question, as a resident of Islip Terrace, my taxes pay for the service of the fire department. Correct me if I am wrong. I also, am not a member of ANY department. My first question regarding the previous post, I quoted from, regarding the insurace fraud, alleged in the post. If this is true, why is it not being reported to the Suffolk County District Attrny? My next question, Freedom of Information Law. I spoke with the town, and they state that the fire department, district is required to provide this, which covers salaries, costs, and expeditures. Correct me if I miss something. Who do I have to call, write to or contact to receive this? I am very curious as to see, what the money is used for. I am not being negitive or positive, just being questionitive. I have no motive or agenda, as a taxpayer, I would like to also see the schools budget. I hope they have an itemized expetiture budget for both showing exactly what was purchased, and what the money was used for?

first off you are in the right track, you need to write a letter to the "Chiarman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, requesting that they provide you with all tax related expenses within their budget. They are required to provide you with this infomation. You have to receive a written response within 5 business days from date of received letter. if they do not respond within the alottedtime frame you must write to the NYS Attorney General advising them of the situation and they WILL TAKE ACTION... the school district operates the same way. when you send letters, send them registered so you have it dated when they receive them. also go to your local congressman and request that they get involved as well. this is no joke, between the school and the fire district, the total budgets top 95 million dollars. BIG BUSINESS
