There was a large turnout tonight for the Patriot's reception at the Crest Hollow. All the nay sayers who have said the GOP is finished should have been because when Magano spoke he brought the whole room to their feet cheering. He is a much better speaker than Suozzi, this is the year the Reps. take back Nassau, and you could just tell based on the turnout tonight that the organization is ready to take on the Nassau Dems and win.

I am a lifetime republican but your out of your mind...the Nassau Republican party is a bunch of limp dick has beens who can't get out of their own way, They shoot themselves in the foot every time! Mondello is fat and lazy, not to mention useless! They have not had a serious candidate for county Exec in God knows how long! As bad as Suozzi is he will walk to the finish line unscathed....

Tom Suozzi is going to run against himself. That's right. He has taxed and raised fees to the point where the average taxpayer is on their knees. And Suozzi is going to run against high property taxes. He is like a bank robber urging the hiring of more police to reduce crime. If he can fool the voters again, he will win. If the voters realize that Suozzi and company solved nothing and raised their taxes 46%, he will lose. The people cannot afford a Suozzi victory again. But do they know it?

Oh please. Is there a Republican who has a magic wand that can lower taxes and keep services? Everyones household bills go up every year, you think the Countys dosent ? Buy Rep and Dems have culled every un needed service out there except for the patronage jos that the parties need to exsist

Not this fool!

Yes, but it wouldn't take a magic wand. Just cut the 1007 patronage positions. That would save alot right there. Remember how made the dems were at Gulottas 159. One thing the dems can do is lie well.

The problem with Nassau residents is that many of them do what you just said. Pretty much throw their hands up and say, nothing we can do about it. Not true. We have to start showing some backbone, and say enough is enough already. People have to stop believing all the rhetoric and hold these people accountable.

There is so much waste in Nassau county government.

Oh man, this is propaganda central! I am a Republican, and I will never vote for anyone associated with Mondello, Santino, and crew. I will cross the aisle, along with a whole lot of disgruntled Republicans, just to get rid of you people. Please just go away.

The owner of the OBI West many years ago advised us all to get out of New York. The same is true in Nassau today. Get OUT Any good memories you have of growing up here are over. THE COUNTY IS GONE AND WILL GET WORSE.

And go where? Somewhere with mudslides, fires, droughts tornados ? Florida with an education system thats in the gutter? One of the N Carolina relocation camps that is reproducing the ISland with insuficient roadways and high school taxes? Or how about the Bible Belt, the American Taliban who think evolution is a myth and have no use for Yankees ? We live in a supply and demand economy, now why Long Island is so expensive? BEcasue its woth it

See, there's one in every group. Idiocy runs in that family, too dumb to even think of moving, dumber still for staying.

See you on I-95 South, big houses on 1/2 an acre or more for $150k and practially no property taxes. With the money I saved I'm sending my son to the University of North Carolina, where instate residents get lower tuition and preferrential admission. He'll see you in Medical School afterward.

NY offers nothing you cannot get any place else except grief, stress and constant financial worries - not to mention the Japs in their SUV's rushing to Bat Mitzvah with a Latte in one hand and a lap dog in the other (no not their husbands.)

Sincerely,

Sleeping Soundly In Wilmington.

Go ahead. And I bet dollars to donuts your school system is a pile of shit. The rural parts down there dont want Yankees and if your in a NY relocation area watch as the place booms, the roadways cant handle it and the people there want the same school system as long Island and your taxes fly up. Maybe you should actualy wait till your son gets into medical school before bragging about it since he hast even started college yet. As for me being an idiot, im in an awsome school district on over an acre in a house thats over 3000sq foot, brand new kitchen and baths. I make more then enough to live here comfortably. One hour to NYC , 20 minutes the other way to farms stands and wineries.

If everything was so great outside of LI people would pick up and leave here in droves, theres a reason there not

Well, I'm a Mets fans and have no use of Long Island's ridiculously expensive public schools. Here's an interesting take in today's Newsday on this very issue. It seems that a young man with a promising future decided to flee.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Up-and-coming Nassau Democrat moving out

He could have been a contender here in Nassau County.

Omar G. Jorge, 28, right, is a lawyer, a member of the Nassau County Planning Commission and was being groomed by Nassau County Democrats as one of their stars.

Now, he and his wife, Miriam, are taking their two children — year-old twins, Michael and Gabriel — and making their future in Charlotte, N.C.

“I got a job offer,” Jorge said. “I’ll be making more money. There’s a lower cost of living. I talked with over with my wife. We’re going. My last day on the planning commission is May 21st.”

Jorge, a Valley Stream resident, took on the virtually unbeatable Republican Francis X. Becker two years ago for the county legislative seat from Lynbrook. He lost — no surprise — but handled himself well.

He was rewarded by Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi with an appointment to the planning commission, where he was given high marks by the chairman, Jeffrey Greenfield.

But his is not the usual tale of a young professional fleeing Long Island because of high taxes.

He is taking a management post in a string of supermarkets in Charlotte that his family owns a share in.

He has one more stop before he leaves: he will be honored June 4 by the Hispanic Heritage Community at its Leader Awards Luncheon at the Château Briand in Carle Place.

Well the article states he isnt leaving due to high taxes. And his is a rare example of somone actualy getting more money in NC. The medium income is far less then here. That being said, i cant tell you how many people I know whove moved off the Island only to come back becasue they hated it. I have the option to leave the ISland if I want an and get more bang for my buck. The schools dont hold up , the best education and best employment opportnuities for my kids are here.

well, I can tell you that all of these posts are full of spelling errors, misused words and improper punctuation. These posts don't say much for the better and much more expensive education system on Long Island.

Jorge Omar left because its a much better lifestyle outside of Long Island. Look around your neighborhood. Who is moving in? Millions of Americans have moved from the north to the south and southwest over the past years. Its not all bad. Something has to be right if these people are fleeing.

Just look around your neighborhood. How many people are packed into the houses? Go to your local supermarket...see how many people are using WICS and foodstamps to pay for their food. I am not against cultural diversity and the great American melting pot, but I am tired of paying high taxes to support it.

Well. I went to school a long long time ago, I was never a good student but that was my own fault. The education my kids are getting is aswome.

As for people feeing, well , be carefull, the grass is always greener and once the move is made moving back often becomes financialy impossible.

If it werent for my kids Id probably leave the Island, I could have a higher standard of living and Id love to live in a rural area. Im doing well here though and like I said, I feel the education is better here . Employment opportunities are definatly better, we have a lower employment rate then say NC and the area pays higher salaries.

Dont forget, this is a supply and demand economy. If so many people where leaving then the prices of housing would continue to drop ( far more then the national average) as the price drops, so do the property taxes on it. People pay what they pay here becasue quite frankly its worth it.

I dont mean to insult anyone but the fact that half of America dosent believe in evolution scares me a bit. A friend of mine used to say, when you leave the Tri State area you enter this place known as America. My cousin just moved back to the NE from S Carolina, the people there where highly intolerant and they couldnt send their kids to public school as some of the teachers would actualy tell them they where going to hell because they werent Christian enough. Racial intolernce is in my opinion far greater in the South. I had a friend who recently went to view property in Tenn, The broker told him point blank, I cant sell you a home here and In doing that as a favor to you. Be very very carefull. And way way to many places are all NYs who are truning it quickly into mini long Islands, the very thing you proclaim to be escaping.
