The problem with the commissioners is they govern themselves and the State lets them do it.

I would advise you to call the Fire District to make sure you are on their agaenda, like some school districts, fire districts do not run an "open" public meeting , you can sit in and listen but not talk unless your compliant or business with them is placed on the meeting agenda. Should you get no satisfaction there are other ways of logging complaints, andit DOES NOT involve Newsrag, you can call or write to teh New York State Comprollers Office concerning your complaint/business/problem with your fire district or you and like minded citizens can form a group of people and run your own canidate for Fire Commisioner in December.

Apparently the commisioners are allowed to change the rules to suit the needs of their own families but those rules dont count for anyone else. I have been told by a
member to hold on till after the next elections and things will change. I hope so because to me this is a type of
corruption and who knows what else goes on that we dont know about.

Things have been changing every year for the past 3 years. The Department and community finally got their act together and started voting out the dinosaurs that have been there forever. Some of the changes in commissioners haven't been the best choices, but it's only a year or so left and they will be gone too. Rumor has it that this year should be the deciding vote over in Selden for a complete turn around if all goes as planned.

I have nothing against the Selden Fire Department. I have a gripe with the people who make and break regulations to suit themselves.

I noticed this morning that it was taken down, and did not have time to repost it. I was disgusted that when someone posts something good they remove the post.

I with to thank Chief Bartnik and the Selden Fire Commisioners for their immediate reply to a letter I sent to them last Thursday. They were truly concerned about the issue that I brought up to them in the letter, and it was quickly resolved. My daughter says thank you too, when she came home from school she was jumping up and down and very glad that I took the time
to straighten things out.

I am beginning to thinks that they should rename this message board "Lets talk trash about our Departments and their members" Thats very sad......

I object to you referring to my issue as lambasting. I was given incorrect information by one of the Selden Firefighters speaking as an Advisor in the Department.

I was very satisfied to the response I got to my letters. I personally spoke to Chief Bartnik, and got return phone calls from Commissioner Matthews and from Joe Caracappa.

What I told you in front of the firehouse last week is what I was told to tell you. I have no reason to lie, change my story or give you the WRONG INFORMATION. So, if that is the way you feel about me, 'PLEASE' the next time you need a favor, which you have asked many of me in the past, find someone else.

why is it that it takes 6 months to get in the fire department. Whats the point of the volunteers needed signs? You should be in the department a lot quicker all you need is to fill out an application and wait for a background check. Since when does it take 6 months for a background check to come back. Last time i checked when u go for a job it only takes 2 days for a background check to come back!!

The other issue is that of it being a Privilege to be a member of any department in the first place and not piss on the guys you work with all the time, but then again that’s known as brotherhood, something I’m sure you know nothing about. The fire service is supposed to protect its own and not spread every little bit of gossip around.

To suggest your Chief should violate someones constitutional rights, just because you do not like what someone else has said is wrong. You dont have to like what someone else is saying AND you do not have to agree with it. It sounds like the kid either doesn't have his license or his mother doesn't think he's been driving long enough to be able to safely respond to the firehouse. First, please don't type in all caps, it makes it hard to read.

Why should you have to have a license to be a member? We had an ex-chief that lost his license, but was still very active, lived behind the firehouse and would walk across to alarms. Ever hear Gladys from Middle Island on the radio? She walks to all alarms. If the kid can find a way to the firehouse for the alarm without having to drive there himself and is an accepted member of the senior FD, what's the beef?
The only issue I would have is that the Chief should not issue a blue light card to someone who's not able to use it himself.

I'm sorry, but enough is enough. To all those complaining about how the kid gets to the firehouse, grow up! I'm sure when you were a new senior member fresh out of the juniors it didn't matter. I could care if the kid put a blue light on a freakin tricycle. The point is not how he gets there, but that he got there.
