unsure

I'm on both corrections and deputy lists.
With out anyone attacking, can you tell me which job is better for a married 28 year old male?
Which job would I have a better chance at getting?

They're both good jobs. Deputy has all kinds of jobs and opportunity to do different things. Corrections is mostly working the jail. There are lots of different units in the jail and some outside of the jail but the majority of the jobs are watching inmates. You probably have a better shot at getting the co job because they hire so many more co's.

You have a better chance of being hired off the C/O list....but that does not eliminate you from the Deputy list.....most people will take the C/O job cause they hire more C/O's....then when they get offered the Dep job they go back into the academy for that.C/O's top step for rotating shift is approx 85,000 a year...most C/O's work rotating shifts...plus we are still 2 years behind on a contract.Shifts are 5 on 2 off...5 on 3 off...0700-1500...1500-2300...Good Luck and keep taking the Civil Service tests while your still young enough!!!!

What are "special units inside and out of the jail"?
Why do you have to go back to the academy? Isn't it the same academy?

Don't worry about any special units....you will not see any until you are senior enough to get it....or politically connected!!!!!!.....that does not mean the C/O job is a bad job.....it is a very good job for people who can handle it!!!!....Once your inside working...you adapt to it and learn to enjoy it!!....2nd Subject....No it is not the same academy.....Deps go to the academy for 6 months .....they go in with the police recruits.C/O's go to the same academy in Brentwood but for 3 months.C/O's do not have to wait for a police class because they are only trained as Peace Officers.Deputies are traiined as Police Officers, thats why they go in with the SCPD and other East end town recruits!...Like I said before.....its a great job.....For me....I never thought of being a C/O when I was younger....but I started taking Civil Service tests for law enforcement....the C/O's called first...I took it....and I really do love it.....i love the people I work with...the pay is pretty good...and the longer you work there the more seniority you get...the better the posts get!!!!....Good luck with whichever job you choose!!!!!

The fact that you're familiar with this website and asking silly questions is indicative that you are well-suited to join either division.

Like one of the other posters said don't worry about the so called special jobs. You have to have about 15 years on to get one. A special job is any job that does not require you to sit on a tier. You could get a position working in the laundry or the kitchen. Only about 10 C/O's have jobs that are not in the jail. They work in IA, MEU, Claims and PIB. So if your coming on this job expect to spend 25 years on a tier watching inmates.
It's not glamorous or even challenging but it pays very well.

Both are good jobs. Take whichever comes first.
As for "working the tiers" in the jail, you'll spend perhaps 5 years of your career actually working a cell block on straight time. the rest of the 20 years are spent elsewhere. (corridor, lobby, control room, property, holding pen, medical, kitchen, pods,......etc)..and that doesn't include "bid" jobs like (rehab, yard, visiting, classification.....etc)
You'll adapt to just about any post and the job gets better with age. You have plenty of posts to work, a lot of choices as to what crew you'd like to work on, and also what building you'd rather work at. Not many jobs give you that.
Good luck.

The original poster would of course take the first job that came up - except he's a TROLL looking to come back, answer his own obviously baited question with the same tired rhetoric and BS that has been said too many times before.
Anyone on both lists will take whichever job comes up first, then if offered the other job - ask the question which is better for me.
Anything else is just a stupid TROLL playing gasoline to an open flame and waiting for the response.
