South Country has a good crew, but when you flat out lie in the paper so that you can glorify your services, forget it! Fire Island Tide, 9/3/04 paper, Miglino trying to justify South Country EMS needs on Eastern Fire Island, states that it took help two and a half hours to respond. Wrong, Doctor was already on the scene within minutes
(Fire Department responded and picked up Dr at his beach residence).
Doctor requested Police to assist transport since she had a dislocated shoulder, nothing life threatening. Police called at 9:30am, arrrived on scene at 9:55am, boat transported at 10:32 to Patchogue. Again Davis Park Medical Association Doctor was on scene within minutes. (SCPD-CC#04-385634).

So please dont try to justify your service with lies, your credibilty is marginal at best.

Miglino isn't the only one who lies...check out the falsehoods perpetuated by Brookhaven Town officials who cower at the green midget and lie about their actions and deny any knowledge when it was they who started this whole thing

Why is Brookhaven Town allowing South Country to move into Davis Park? Why not offer it to Patchogue Ambulance, or start a First Responder program over, there because 9 times out 10 Suffolk PD will chopper the patient out anyway.
Is South Country gonna buy a Helicopter now?
The upswing is that Miglineo could let the college co-ed vollies wear skimpy green bikinis while on duty.
I wonder if Mazzei and the Town is getting more insirance thru Neppell for this little endevour?
The seed was set already in a Long Island Advance article showing Mazzei so proud of Davis park improvements yet the patchoughe ferry dock looks like a slum shack...

The information about the patient came from the woman and her husband who were upset when they reached BMH and complained to the nursing staff. In addition, nobody in Davis Park including the Doctor with no equipment did anything to help this women. When you set up your jars out there to collect money from people you should tell them that if they drown or have a heart attack, help is only 45 minutes away. That should make them happy. Last I spoke with the Chief he said Fire Island was a fadding issue. Dont forget, we didnt approach Fire Iswland or the Town they came to us.

I will forward your story to Chief Miglino I am sure he will reply to your post, I hope.

First, Fire Island has a few fire departments why are they not taking all of these calls. I know that it is more of a vacation area but come on.

second, I do not think South Country covering that area would make a difference b/c they do not have the proper equipement to get a patient from Fire Island to a ambulance on Long Island.

I think SCPD should place a Heli pad over there with a helicopter this way the injured would not have to wait for a transport. They have them staffed in Islip and the hamptons, so if that is not enough they should add more.

Finally to Justthe facts, What you might have said is true, we do not know that, but why come here and look for trouble. You should post your thoughts and leave it at that. You seem like you ride for South Country and if so post your name and be proud you do.

One of our members alerted me to this new post. Telling the truth around here never seems to do much good but here it is.

We didnt contact anyone about Fire Island, the Town came to us after a meeting with the county who was informed by the state that EMS was a problem on Fire Island. This issue surfaced in 1999 and remained unresolved. The issue came to a head when Fairharbour FD made a request to the state to become a first response agency.

What Fire Island decides to do or not do, will have little or no effect on South Country Ambulance. My only concern as chief is the protection of lives in the area I am currently assigned. That would be 28 sq miles with 45,000 residents. This area produces 2700 alarms a year. I would say thats enough to keep busy with.

My opinion of Fire Island is that it would best be served by the current Fire Departments, augmented by a beefed up SCPD Marine Bureau. They have the best knowledge of the land and the police have the best transport available. That being said, some one needs to step up to the plate and make it happen. There are numerous reported cases of poor patient outcomes and needless delays from that area. This should not be, people should enjoy those communities with the knowledge that help is only minutes away if needed.

All that being said, even if those communities pony up that still leaves 8 miles unprotected from William Floyd Parkway to Watchill, with the exception of the small part of Fire Island assigned to us 5 years ago( Bellport Beach). That area also needs an EMS agency assigned.

As for " HMMMM" I have responded to your un educated rants before. You are well aware of the use of those vehicles. They are well within the limits of prudent use and spending, check your tax bill. I dont know who you see driving the Marine bureau truck. It was out of service with a blown transmission for months.

The fact that you are disabled does not prevent you automatically from joining. Read the Americans with Disabilities Act. We screen you and if you provide the needed doctors notes and other documentation then we would have to permit you to join. Send me your address and I will send you and application.

Oh I forgot our boat, every fire department from here to montauk bought them after the Flight 800 fiasco. It sees more then enough calls to justify its exsistance. Three times in the last week there were incidents out on the water, maybe we should tell people to rescue themselves.

aside from that, and this isn't a bash, the marine unit was out for months? not totally sure about that, i saw a woman in her mid to late 50's driving it on dunton ave with a kid in it, and on another occasion sawe the same woman up by stop and shop in medford, probably a relative or something. if you say it is all within the perimeters i guess i have no choice but to believe you.

hmmmm,,,what is your gripe here? it looks like you live in the district too. bad blood or something?

I can't explain what you saw. We do not have a single active female member in there fifties here. We have one member who lives on Dunton Ave, and he is 25-27 year old male.

The Marine Unit was out of service for a few months, the mechanics report will indicate that. It is currently in service.

All our vehicles can be tracked by the last two digits on the plate, it should say 5-42-whatever. If you believe a piece of equipment is being misused, feel free to call or e mail that information. Time, date, and location are always helpful when reporting a problem.

Other then that I don't have a response about the vehicle. As for any other question you may have. If you are a resident of the district, all you have to do is come down with you drivers licsense and you can see anything ( minus volunteers personal information ) you might like. No fancy forms to fill out, no question asked.

I'm not a fan of Greg personally, but as he will tell you (and I agree) that doesn't matter as long as the patient is getting taken care of.

There are also those who say that South Country is more paid than vollie, that may be true (I really don't know), but again as long as when I call for EMS it comes... than your tax dollars are at least going to something tangiable. I, like other posters here, do fell that the county should be adressing paid EMS not individual districts, but until that day comes, than "semi-paid" is the way we have to go.

As far as Davis Park... there is no EMS, any "first aid" you're gonna get is from PD (and hope they're nearby) and the covering "doctor" can be anybody from a TEACHING doc to a ALLERGIST. I know because a few years ago as a vacationer I had to bring a potential serious case to the Doctor ( I got the teacher) and was stunned at his lack of equipment.

Evidentally, they all line up for this sweetheat deal ( a free beach house for a week or two) and HOPE and PRAY that they get nothing more than a splinter or a bug bite.

Davis park is a Brookhaven Town beach, park, whatever you want to call it. They have a volunteer Fire Department, whether anyone there is an EMT I don't know. Why doiesnt the town simply hire a couple EMTs to cover the area duing the summer.
I was there one Sunday a month ago, and there wer FIVE SCPD officers hanging out on the walkway ovelooking the beach.
Are they EMTS? The entire marine Bureau shold be EMTs, until the town hires some First responders, a cheaper way to go rather than being in contract with South Country or any other EMS orgnization for that matter, because you will be paying for insurance, their equipment and such,
Just give a P/T ot F/T EMT a John Deere scat or whatever they call them and they can start PD right away and response would be quicker and patient care would increase

I would just like to say that you go on about South Country and that they are always paid but you know what i volunteer there and i volunteer one night every week from 7pm to 5am and i also volunteer every 7th weekend from 5am to 7 pm Saturday and Sunday. All the people that i volunteer with on those days and nights are also volunteer. So everyone always talks about those who get paid when more of the people all volunteer .. I think we deserve more credit.. the volunteers.. Thank you to all the South Country Members who show up every night they are assigned and VOLUNTEER!!!!!

DavisDem: It's just not that simple. The Town cannot just go out and hire (Oh God...think of the nepotism on this one...) a few EMTs. There is a specific certificate of need process that must be done, under rules and regulations promulgated under Article 30 and Part 800 of the New York State Public Health Laws. Not even the Davis P{ark FD can do it unless these conditions are met.

As for your chief he actually gets the job done he dosent do it with much grace but he has a well oiled ship. If you look at other neighboring agenies there ship is sinking that would be Shirley Community Ambulance their chief Frank Lucino does things for his own reasons . Thinks that he is god. You all say it is like opersting under Hitler well Shirley Ambulance operates under a Correction Officer that thinks that all his members are his inmates. At least Hitler got things done as for the Correction Officer he is a babysitter that isnt to good at what he was hired for. The members their got the short end of the stick.

I have sent numerous emails in regards to your Dump Truck that was illegally parked outside the Home Depot in Shirley and I never got a response from you. Why is it that every time I see a South Country vehicle at a place of business, they are always parked in the fire zone and never parked in a parking spot. And while your at it, can you ask the people that are driving your ambulances to stop driving right through the stop sign at the corner of Lexington Road and Roberts Road in Shirley. That is a very dangerous thing that they are doing, someday they may hit another vehicle or, god forbid, they may hit a person.........Have a wonderful day.

I have spoken to the individual that fuels our vehicles about being more alert when going to the Mastic yard to fuel up. I expect all members to obey the vehicle and traffic laws.

As for home depot, those individuals were directed to park there, for loading. It is apparently common. As you may be aware, to cut costs we do a lot of our own repairs with volunteer's vs. hiring outside contractors.

As for seeing vehicles all over, I doubt that people see our ambulances out of district much, but other vehicles clearly would be everywhere. People have them assigned to them for school, pick up supplies, run errands for the department. I just hope that they are being driven in a safe manner. If not call.

Any complaints should be forwarded via U.S. Mail, Phone, E-Mail, or in person. I do not reply to posts here as it is not a legitimate way to track complaints. I have done so this time to explain the proper way to forward a complaint.

I am the same person that was robbed in queens about two years ago. However, it was not a 14 year old girl, it was a 16 year old african american child with a knife. He approached me as I was stepping out of my vehicle on Farmers Blvd to get a pack of smokes, he caught me by suprise and the thought ran through my mind, either give him the money I had in my pocket or get a knife in the stomach or chest. I think that the person using that "N" word was way out of line. The reason that I included the boys color was because of the neighborhood in which the crime took place. If the crime had happened in Howard Beach, I would have said that it was a 16 year old white kid, and so on. So I guess now, I'm being described as a racist. If I was such a racist, why would I work in a area of Queens with such a high population of Indians, Guyanese, African Americans, Latinos, and so forth. True, South Country is an emergency agency, but when thier not on a call, they should park in a regular spot. I know that when I sign out the First Responder from my corp. You are correct, I did not give you an appropriate response to your last post. I do apologize. You may believe that I sound like an ignorant person, however, I don't know you and you don't know me. I don't know where you work, I have told you where the "incident" took place (Farmers Blvd. in Jamaica Queens). I don't know if you are very familiar with the area, but I have worked in that particular area for close to four years now and I can tell you first hand that there are pretty much no white people living in that area. There are however, plenty of white people living in Howard Beach, Old Howard Beach, Hamilton Beach, Ozone Park and South Ozone Park Why do I feel that it was necessary to include the persons race? Because of the area in which the crime took place. If you ever listen to a scanner and listen to the police give a description about a potential criminal, you always hear them say either, male/female white, male/female black, male/female spanish, and so on. On another topic, I do not believe that I know everything in the world, I am just one man with an opinion, and as my god given right as an American citizen, I am free to voice my opinion. If you don't agree with some of the things that I have to say, well then that is your right as well. As far me trying to tell the members of South Country Ambulance how to run their department, that is not true. I have never had any problem with that particular ambulance company. I personally think that they do an outstanding job. They never 24 a call, and I believe that for the most part, they always have an ALS provider on their ambulances when they roll out of the garage. The people that live in the South Country Ambulance District get probably some of the best patient care in this entire county. My problem in the past has been with their chief. The fact of the matter is that I just don't like him, and again that is my opinion. I don't like his attitude, nor do I like his personality. However, I will say that he does run a very tight ship over there. To be perfectly honest with you, I wish that the ambulance company that I ride with would have some of the same response times as South Country Ambulance. Would I like to see some of the things in my own department change, sure I would, and I can guarantee that I am not alone when I say that. I wish I could be down here twenty four hours a day and jump on the bus every time the pager goes off, but then reality sets in and I realize that I have a job I need to go to, to pay my mortgage, and I have a wife and a dog that would like to see me every once and a while. ExCaptian, I'm going to have agree with you, a simple discussion about the Fire Island issue has turned into a name calling situation. Fireman, obviously you don't like me. Be that as it may, I can accept that and not lose any sleep over it. I will say that the reason that I don't give the name of the department that I ride with is because when I am posting something on this message board, I am not representing them, I am representing myself and my own points of views. If he was taking it to go to a legitimate meeting, there is nothing wrong with that. So the guy stopped off at his vollie FD on his way back from the meeting, why do you care so much. Not for nothing, but that is the reason why we buy a few of those trucks, so members don't have to waist there own gas on the way to classes and trainings. It is a "perk" we provide members in my dept so they will stay active in their responsibilities as EMS persons. It is something that every dept I have ever ridden with or seen does. So it isn't like SCA is doing anything wrong. It is expensive to drive to Huntington or Montauk for classes, why not allow members to use a district vehicle. If I know SCA, they probably had 3 other responders and a full ALS crew in house. I seriously doubt that that one truck was sorely missed. Your rant on here is quite ridiculous, if you have a problem, why post it on here, be a man and say something to him. Its not like he hasn't made himself readily available. You know his name and his dept, show up, I know Lindsey, I am sure he'll be there. He won't have any problem going over the finer points of this discussion. Take it easy and be safe.

I look at this bord as a way that people in the fire and ems system can get things out in the open so that different people can get their ideas out and share them with others,but people don't use this bord for that this bord is a way that people who don't have the balls to say something to someones face can get their pathetic point out in the open.This is to the person that wants to know why a south country responder was at Gordon Heights.I want to know why is it that people can bi*ch and complain why we have vehicles at home depot or in mastic getting gas or out on the road at all but the one question that people never ask is how can we improve patient care or how can we get ambulances to people faster that is what should be talked about.

ok,,,so topic change,,,,the funniest thing i saw was a mastic beach ford expedition collecting $$ out of tin cups at the beach.....then another pulled up!!!!!! im sure they get to do serious off-roading with a ton of $$ expedition,,,,tin cup collections!!! next time take the 1990 ford crown vic to get donations!! maybe people will believe you acutally need the $$

I would have to say that complaining about a South Country vehicle at another volunteer agency is a little out of left field. The reason that I complain about South Country vehicles is because they don't follow the law. I'm not saying that every member who drives them is not following the law, just a few. An emergency vehicle should not be parked in fire zone when not a call at that particular location. I can understand if the vehicle is parked there because they are loading and unloading material, however, the vehicle was parked there for almost an hour unattended. The second gripe that I have had is multiple South Country vehicles driving straight through the stop sign at the corner of Lexington Road and Roberts Road in Shirley. My only concern is if some pedestrian crosses that street and gets hit by a 15,000 lb ambulance. That is all for now......Have a wonderful day.....

The need for the expeditions..... as a member of the parks pd I can accurately tell you that smith point has seven miles of outer beach, ie the need for a four wheel drive vehicle. When your out on the beach with a patient by yourself its nice to see those red lights coming !!!!!

You are correct, I have been on many of these message boards, and yes I have carried on and on about Mr. Miglino. To answer your question, my problem is with Greg himself. Like I have said before, I just don't like him, and that is just my opinion. As far as me having a problem with South Country Ambulance as a whole, then you are incorrect. I have stated many many times on this website that I think that South Country Ambulance does an outstanding job for their community and they should be extremely proud of themselves. To answer another part of your question, I am not personally pissed at Greg Miglino, I have my own opinions about him and his personality. Do I know him on personal level, no I do not. The only Greg that I know is the one that I have seen on calls and that is the person that I do not like. I hope that I have answered all of your questions. You are correct, I don't know him personally. I guess you can say that I have been judging him mostly from what I have seen over the years on calls. To answer your second question, no I have never tried to join South Country Ambulance, and no I was never rejected. Like I have said on numerous occasions, I have nothing personal against the members of South Country Ambulance, I just don't like their chief, and that is my own opinion. That is all for now. Well I will tell you like I have told others I am a Captain of South Country I am also a paid full time employee.I do not get paid to be a Capitan or do I get paid to respond to calls.I put in long hours as a paid person and as a volly.I am not in the pocket of my chief or any other person,I work for the bord of directors and I answer to them. how does it work out being both paid and vollie in the same company? as far as I know, legally, any company that has a person who gets paid and also volunteers in the same organization, is putting the company at risk of lawsuit.
Should you,hypothetically, become a disgruntled employee or vollie, you could sue the company for wages for all your vollie time. It doesn't matter if you have two different jobs (paid custodial and vollie emt for example). I checked w/page,wolfberg, and werth, ems lawyers.

Yeah because lawyers don't lie???? You can volunteer and work for the same agency as long as you are not being paid to do what you volunteer for. Or you are not your own boss, like a commissioner and a worker. In either case, like he said, it does not affect him. So everyone understands, all that should matter is whether or not they get out on their runs. The answer is, they do. So then there really isn't anything to talk about. I agree Greg has his moments and is not a fan favorite in the county, but he gets the job done. As much as it pains me to say it. Stay safe out there.

My question is to what capacaity are you paid? because according to FEDERAL LAW, the TAYLOR LAW to be specific, one can not be paid and volunteer to do the same job. If I am a First Responder in my home Fire Department and get paid for it, I cannot, by law be a member of that departments ambulance company, and I cannot respond to rescue calls as an ambulance personnel "after working hours."
So depending on what your duties in South Country are, you and Miglino et al are breaking the law.
So is, my friend, GHFD, as you are a part time First Responder, being paid for it, while at the same time You are responding and Captain of GHFD Ambulance Co. You may be doing it on your off days, but Guess what the Taylor Law says...NO CAN DO.
So before you get all high and mighty about all these offices you hold, you should read the rulebooks and not get the old foot in the mouth disease.
But then again as an EMTB you are ordering ALS equipment for your ambulances, so no one abides by the rules over there anyway.

Regarding fire/EMS coverage for Fire Island,

Do the National Park Service folks have any responsibility? They just got a new boss, maybe it is time to speak with him about it. I know the feds have a program for funding local fire departments that assist parks, etc.

They only have EMT's and do a poor job currently of providing any care. In addition they have no transport capability. If the Feds had stepped up to the plate from the 1970 when they took over more people would be a live today.

On the other hand if you are a piping plover they will close off the beach for you from april to september and spend millions on your protection.

To sum it up the park service is almost as much of a problem for the sick and injured on Fire Island as is the local Fire Departments out there.

They need a system on that Island and until they get one people will continue to die, that otherwise may have lived.
