View Full Version : deputy hemi chargers 45k on the taxpayers dime
ive seen them....
05-01-2009, 05:09 PM
I saw them myself. And the paperwork, not one cent from any drug initiave or any other lame excuse. Straight up taxpayer money.
Nearly 250k in funds, additional expense for the public.
They will not be taken home. The deps will drive their take home
dep-mobiles to their hwy relief points and drive their dep hemi chargers on hwy.
So yes taxpayers, add the cost of the hemis and the crown vics to the deps salary, or his oats

oh mr. scpd, you know that if it was you getting those cars it would be no big deal to you, so stop your whining.

You don't get the point that the Deputy drives his COUNTY take home car, using COUNTY gas and insurance to the relief point and then takes the COUNTY owned Hwy car. The Hwy car isn't the issue.

The idea was that deputies cost less.
They have their dep cars fitted as hwy cars, at least some of them do, that cost you money.
Now they are driving their dep cars to relief points to drive another car as a hwy car.
How does that cost less?

Asswipe, the majority of the deps drive their OWN PERSONAL car to the relief points, a few are still entitled to be provided transportation based on when they were hired, so stop your B.S. and go boo-hoo in the corner you freaking baby.
By the way I see plenty of SCPD marked cars parked by houses in my area, so even from the now defunct Highway Patrol.

The Chargers are less than the Crown Vics. that is why the county has them on contract.

This post is a little incorrect. We get to pick the type of take home car we want. Some guys are getting Chargers, Some guys like trucks or suv's. I myself am getting a Vette. The only Bullshit thing is that we now have to choose between a motorcycle or a boat for our days off. We used to get both but that prick Levy is screwing us.

If you don't know what those Hwy cars are parked in your neighborhood are, you don't have a clue and are not a Deputy so I'm not going to explain it to you. Still more Deputy cars parked in my neighborhood than SCPD cars.

WHEN is the state taking over the LIE and the Sunrise Highways? Or has everyone missed that part of the Steve Levy smoke and mirrors game?
The whole issue was the state taking over those roadways to cover the cost... and now it seems WE THE TAXPAYERS are still getting soaked for the cost... and now MORE cost as the Sheriff's department apparently is bilding it's own Highway patrol unit... WHEN does this END? More salaries and equipment... and if I'm not mistaken... SCPD didn't layoff anyone... so the overall cost to the county between the SCPD and the Sheriff's has infact gone up!!!
Nice going Levy.... just another lie and the usual political garbage!

I just dont get how posting that levy is spending tax dollars on expensive deputy sherrif hwy cars in addition to the already assigned deputy sheriff cars that were outfitted for hwy use with additional tax dollars, would be considered arrogant.
You guys dont get it. Its not whining that deps have a hemi charger and we dont. Its not arrogance.

Likewise. Remember we see you when all the pretense is over. When you are at home and you are being you. We listen to the reports of verbal, mental, and physical abuse you heap on your kids, wives brothers sisters parents neighbors, coworkers strangers etc. Many times we hear it on a weekly or better basis

Relax, before you call it a scam all the newly issued fleet.s will be coming in now for all county agencies. So before you get yourself worked up and have to put your foot in your mouth, await the arrival of yours. Hopefully some of the plain cloths units will benefit from one or 2 to replace the present fleets that start shaking at 45-50 mph. Don't make something out of nothing.

Charity aside, the sheer entertainment of this night is worth every penny that you may spend. From search lights, to DJ, to ring announcer and card girls, to pre-party and after-party.... The organizers DEFINITELY go to great lengths to ensure that a good time is had by all. You want to be a part of a night where you are proud to be a part of the police family? Come on down.

needledick... Reread the post... I was confirming that you are a county troll. And you confirmed it with your yaphank comment. The cars haven't been delivered to the highway guys yet. Have you seen them on the road? And they are going to use them for hov and I'm sure they paid for them with grant money. Not county money. If it was it would add validity to your post. Now get over yourself already.
Hes a troll, when all he is saying is that there are 5-6 deputy hemichargers being fitted to become hwy units.
According to you;
its a state grant for hov...something deps dont do. Scpd does hov.
deps dont take home cars(meanwhile I past unit dep 136 every day parked in his driveway)
Another troll (or you) says its federal grant money
The hemis havent arrived yet...meanwhile there are camera phone pics floating around from dpw workers who have seen them, aside from those of us who have been out there and seen them ourselves.
One poster doesnt even understand what a dep car with the hwy package is.
But the cops are the trolls. Not you.
Lets be honest, you are arguing about shit you dont have a clue about to pass time. You arent a dep, dont know a hwy package from a package in your tighty whities.

Are you really that dumb? Jeff Frayler, a mere pba prez, a non-ranked police officer, has soooo much power he was able to stop the Suffolk County Executive, the most powerful political man in Suffolk, who is directly in control of the Suffolk Police Commish, who is in control of the entire police dept.
But yet he cannot stop Levy from switching hwy to the deps, cutting back on overtime budget, not hiring more police, etc etc?
Do you know how idiotic this sounds? I swear some of you dramaboyz have way too much time on your hands.
The bottom line, the pba refused to admit any desire for the immigration enforcement. It is a job of another agency and it is considered off limits. In fact the pba made it clear to the County it would not accept the job without a fight.

There is a difference between working with a federal agent, and stealing/scabbing his job.
Jeff may or may not be a popular prez, but he represents scpd well in this measure. We dont want to take work away from other agencies, even if it means an increase in our manpower, powers, or pay .

Very cute and dramatic. but hardly realistic.
Scpd worked with the feds, just like they would work with mtaa on a plane crash, or with the mta on a train crash, the irs on a tax fraud case, etc etc.
That isnt stealing a job.
To steal a job from another agency to increase our paycheck, membership is wrong.
To steal a job from another agency for a bunch of "might have been or imagine that" political motives is even more wrong.
Whats so wrong about creating an immigrant task force? Thats a federal law. We are a state level police dept( in other words empowered by nys to enforce state laws) and there is an federal agency in place for that. We are not sworn to enforce those laws.
And yes we do arrest illegals for local crimes and enforce federal warrants of arrest/deportation.
Please dont tell us what we need. If you want to determine our future, take the entrance exam, get on the job, run for pba prez. Until then worry about you and yours.

Who would foot the bill for all this? I'm sure the govt would send a few bucks our way, but really, training, intelligence, equipment technology, deployment, followed by arrest, hearings, jail, trial, and finally deportation, is going to cost Suffolk taxpayers money.
There is no profit in this. I'm sure that all illegals will have a free ride from the time of incarceration, to the public defender...on federal court dime, no less, to the actual free ride out of USA.

I do not think county taxes should go to paying for federal law enforcement.
This was another grandiose dream of levy's. Instead of trying to receive more federal aid, he tried to bully the feds into sending more agents. The problem is that while suffolk does have a illegal alien problem, it is moderately average compared to other areas. It doesnt require special attention from the feds.
Now the feds want nothing to do with us. How often is Nassau working in conjunction with ICE to round up illegals? Yet suffolk is ignored. HMMMM wonder why?

SCPD highway patrol still exists. They're BUFFING calls on 27. SO WHAT?

Again you are missing the point. there is no jealousy that deps get a take home car. good for you.
The issue is the cost of deps, the real cost of them on hwy. Deps have had their cars tricked out as hwy vehicles. Costing more money. Now they are getting cars for hwy use only.
The scpd that have take home cars are they going to work to use another car in this case the hwy hemi?
But I'm glad you admit at least the deps have cars, because according to some trolls they dont.
Amazing how quickly the troll changed the topic. Mention the topic cost of deps on hwy, and you get called Gay, or Guy or anything as a diversion.

Add that to the list of bs lies told here.
One poster claims deps dont have take home cars, not one of them, but you see them sitting right i/f/o their home, all thru out suffolk, dont cha??
One poster claims the hemis dont exist, yet you seem them in the yard at yaphank.
One poster claims the hemis were paid for with federal grant money...which of course wasnt even applied for when the chargers were purchased...lol
Another poster claims the hov grants from nys paid for the hemis.
Another winner claims that the deps are working the hov lane.
When it was explained that scpd took it back in January due to manpower concerns, yet ANOTHER winner stated deps took it back, late in April!!!
You trollz lie on top of lie, and wonder why no one believes you

SCPD had it until December and then the contract expired. Now it has been renewed and the Sheriff's are doing it.

Deputies have been doing HOV enforcement for last week or so.

right, so we should believe deps have been patrolling hwy hov since;
December
Last week
and 3 seconds ago.
We should believe that the deps dont have take home cars, and the dep car parked around the corner that works the same chart that i do, 33* is a figment of my imagination. Or the 4 parked in my sector.
That the chargers were bought with federal stimulus monies
That the chargers were bought with nys "hov" grant monies( doesnt exist)
That the chargers, painted black and white sitting out for all to see in Yaphank dont exist.

Deps taking home is CONTRACTUAL - like SCPD HIGH SALARY and few working days.
If we cant complain about the latter cant complain about the former.
Get take home cars in your next contract. OH YEAH> A lot of SCPD HAVE TAKE HOME CARS. There is one near me THAT NEVER LEAVES. Must work nights.

Chargers ???
05-20-2009, 05:27 PM
I come onto this site once in awhile for some laughs and once again I was able to laugh at the very first line. Chargers cost more money and you saw the invoice, and the money came from the Sheriff's Budget? LOL. Even if any of that were true, (and none of it is), why does it concern you or have anything to do with you. For one thing the Chargers are on the State bid and the cost of the Charger with a HEMI and a full "Police" package as these are is listed right there in black and white. Ironically they cost exactly $2644.00 - LESS THAN a Crown Victoria. But don't believe this post, go to the Suffolk County DPW website, look up County contracts, vehicles and see for yourself. The funniest thing is that the Charger takes the same oil filter as the Ford's, the same synthetic blend oil, etc. and the Charger gets 4 MPG better gas mileage - which of course you already knew because you read the invoice. Funny how you left that stuff out though??? Curious.

thats cute and all troll, but no one has said the hemi cost more. No one.
The issue is the deputy being assigned a take home crown vic, many of which are outfitted with the hwy package, and the introduction of chargers specifically for hwy use. So deputies rotating through hiwy will have their take homes and the hwy charger.
Additionally The chargers are being outfitted for hwy use, added lite bars, push bars, etc etc. Which will cost more then a reg crown vic.
But thats not the point. you point was discussed already, please next time read the whole thread before you give your 2 cents

Here is the original post;I saw them myself.
Nowhere does it say chargers cost more.
I'm not a cop, deputy or county worker, so I'm no expert, but its reasonable to assume that someone somewhere within suffolk county govt signed a check for these vehicles, and that check was funded by taxpayer dollars. The state didnt pay for them, remember thats levys issue with highway that he pulled scpd. And if they did, who pays state taxes? I do.
The issue is redundant vehicles. That is a take home 40k car with free gas plus a highway only car for those who rotate thru highway, as demarco said himself, they all get a week, "thats his style".
We are paying for deputies to have a car, and to not use that car, and use a different car on highway.
The idea of deputies working highway was to save money. Now we find out their vehicles had to be upgraded, they needed additional training, and now extra vehicles.
Typical of govt. Cant leave well enough alone. Before you know it the deputies will be as expensive as the cops

These are the same taxpayers who are forced to pay two individuals with almost exactly the same training completely different salaries. One that is reasonable to most concerned taxpayers, the other - Suffolk County Police Officers - which appears excessive to almost all taxpayers. In addition, when you stack up three deliveries of 10 Chargers each, 18 marked and 12 unmarked at a total cost of $686,229.30 instead of the Crown Vics which cost $797,775.50 it looks like once again you dopes cant add word a damn because the Sheriff just saved the taxpayer another $111,546.20 on the purchase of 30 new vehicles already planned in this years budget.

But the vehicles in question arent replacement vehicles they are additional vehicles. In other words the deps assigned a take home still have them. But now when they work hwy, they have another vehicle waiting.
And while the training of the individuals is simliar the job they do is different.
And what makes the deps reasonable at less then 10k difference then scpd? Look at the workload

You said it the same training. But what do you get from scpd and the deps?
Scpd patrol force of 900, and a couple hundred detectives cope etc= 900k calls answered a year. 20k arrests, 3.5-4k dwis
deputies 275 deputies =less then 50k calls, less then 1000 arrests, and until they got hiwy less then 50 dwis a year. But you do have the highest paid inmate babysitters. And eviction personnel (other areas use town employees)
factor in their o/t and their take home cars and they cost more to you then scpd does!!

So its reasonable to pay deputies 9k less then police when they do nothing for the average person?
If you arent incarcarated, in need of eviction, or an order of protection, you probably will never need the services of a deputy.
Its reasonable to allow them about 40k in overtime a year?
To give them a commuter car with free gas, insurance, and carte blanch to go as fast as they please?

The deps endorsed him. So he squeezes 5 hemi chargers into the budget, doesnt explain that these are additional cars...or maybe he does.
Maybe he simply explains how the increased burden on the deps fleet require 5 more cars.

Nice spin. Its not simply putting the facts out there. Letting people know what is going on.
Its because we are jealous. Whats to be jealous of?
Its not the additional cost, the added expense, its just jealousy.
I bet you are hoping for a rolling in the muck name calling session. Its what you fools usually bait us with.

These are the same taxpayers who are forced to pay two individuals with almost exactly the same training completely different salaries. One that is reasonable to most concerned taxpayers, the other - Suffolk County Police Officers - which appears excessive to almost all taxpayers.
So let me ask you, after reading the responses to your post, dont you wish you researched who made what a little before you opened your big ignorant yap?

The Deps do NOT want the hwy. They were ordered to do it and are following their orders.
The Dep union HAS to be at the Perb hearing because the PBA named them as co defendants. The Deps have not called any witnesses, given any testimony or questioned any of the PD witnesses. Anyone who says different is not telling the truth.

your own link shows you are a liar. You quote the SCPD average but then you show what a Deputy sargent makes not what a deputy makes.
Here is what the form says
SCPD Police Officer Base pay 98K
Deputy Base Pay 75K
SCPD Aveage with OT 127K
Deputy Average with OT 103K
So using your own "proof" it still shows that even though a Deputy works several more weeks a year than a suffolk cop he is still making $24,000 less.

Deps "work" a few days less then scpd, not weeks. They make 24k less but have a free take home car, saving them 20k in loan, fuel, insurance, maintenance, costs
They also makes less because as levy said, they dont serve a true patrol function. Hence their lower ticket, 911 call response, and arrests total per deputy. They do more of the civil work. Babysitting prisoners, serving orders of protection, evicting people, is not the same as answering 911 calls, writing tickets and making arrests.

City marshals arent cops. Arent law enforcement. They didnt take nypd's job away. Its befuddling that suffolk county uses 100k law enforcement types to do evictions.

No of course not. It would require a simple order from levy.
And yes marshals only do evictions in the city, thats why they are called ny city marshals, brainiac.

Yes, SNICKERS, that is what the rotund Suffolk County Police Officer boght at the 7-11 on Rt 25 in Selden just blocks from his police station. I am 52, own my own business and am considered by most to be "thin". I think I could actually afford to lose a few pounds though. A few days ago I was nearly run off the roadway as I was traveling along Rt 25. I saw the police car come zooming out of the station house driveway and assumed he was on a mission. As it were he raced into the 7-11 parking lot where I was going to go for my coffee. What followed was ridiculous. It took this fat bastard three attempts to clear the steering wheel and exit his patrol car. First he pushed the tilt wheel all the up, then he tried and tried again to exit. The third time was the charm and he was out of the vehicle. Now he turned and leaned forward back into the vehicle to get something which turned out to be a radio handset. They must have some sort of new high tensile strength material for britches because this guy filled his pants to overload capacity and I felt that if he had taken a breath while leaning into the car many would have died behind him when the seems of the trousers blew out. This XXXXXXXL officer then waddled into the 7-11 and purchased not one but two extra large Snickers bars and a Big Gulp of soda that resembled a small waste basket. If that wasn't bad enough, he grabbed a bag of potato chips on the way to the register. This charactor was still looking and I am convinced that if there had been a line to wait on at the register he would have bought even more snacks. I don't get it, isn't there any rule or regulation for a Police Officer to be fit and capable of performing athletic tasks while working and when necessary? How can this guy be a cop? This individual is an embarrassment to anyone who wears a uniform anywhere. When I was in the service we had to pass yearly fitness exams to remain active - what is the Police force coming to when they cant even get out of thier own cruiser? I guess 1 arrest for every 8 cops isn't all that great.

There are only about 1200 cops assigned to patrol/cope/ crime or gang unit.
Those are who made the dwi arrests.
But otheriwse you are right. 331 arrests for dwi, it would take the deps 10 years
Nice try skippy.

The guy who has 2, does he get the top cop award?
If so does he show up?

Create another agency? Nah, Get rid of the deps, and add another civil bureau to the sheriffs office.
Grasping at straws? Quoting made up stats?
Ok heres some made up stats

Keep pissing off all the powers and see how many more jobs we lose?
Whos the powers? Not you. Not the deps, we lost hwy, an archaic and depleted service to the deps. 35 spots, now down to 27. Thats all skippy

How come you guys only want to talk about the 1200 guys that are assigned to patrol but when it comes to the Deps you want to talk about every deputy including the chiefs and under sheriffs. The deps have less than 100 guys on patrol.
So for the month the deps had 25 dwis for less than 100 guys on patrol and the PD had 300 arrests for 1200 guys on patrol. The ratio is the same. 1 for every 4 guys. Stop acting like you are something special. Your a police officer nothing more.

The deps had 25 dwis for the whole year kiddo, the only month they had 25 is after highway.
The deps have take home cars, they are expected to be vigilant during their commute. The deps have stop dwi campaigns.

One guy had 17? And the rest of you? 10?
Only because you have hwy. And honestly 25 dwis for hwy in a month is low.
Scpd hwy was responsible for 23% of all of suffolks dwis. The total number has been 5600-6000, although last year it dropped into the 5500s.
23% of 5500 is roughly 1200 dwis, roughly 100 a month.

17 dwis by one dep? What year was that?
05 you had 38
06 you had 35
07 you had 23 This means you are around 30 a year, with the one deputy embarassing all the rest with a respectable amount.
You had hwy since sept of 08 and eeked out 118 dwis.
Say you had 30 without hwy, you managed 88 dwis from Sept to December with hwy. Not even one a day.

Thats not true. The number of dwis by hwy patrol is annually about 55-60% of all hwy dwis. Which is still 650-700 dwis.

You can twist and spin the numbers game any way you want to. Every dope who comes on here and boasts numbers for the "Old Highway Patrol", AKA: SCPD is using numbers based on a staff of close to eighty people - including bosses. The Sheriff's Office has 21 Deps and uses supervision from other sections. So of course you did 500-600 DWI's a year with 80 people and of course the Deps should only be doing 25% of the DWI's with 25% of the manpower. But instead the Deps are producing 44% of your old DWI number with 25% of the people. Bottom line; with more people you get more DWI's - DUUUUHHHHHHHH. None of this stuff is rocket science boys and girls and we can continue to go round and round with the number spin game all you want. At the end of the day, Levy pulled SCPD off and put SCSO on, SC PBA is fighting to get it back and SC DSPBA is fighting to keep it. Why not let the courts decide and keep all our dirty laundry off this rag of a site???

Arrests in general are not cost effective. They do not make money for the county. Cop gets paid, courts gets paid, pub defender gets paid. Defendant generally skates, and pays a minor fine. Whats 500 bucks? Does it cover the salary of the arresting cop, the cop who sits on the car to see if its a seizure, the breath teach? The cell attendant? The cops who transport to 1st d? The deps, court and corrections officer? The judge the ada? Or if he faces jail time, he really costs money. So your point is just asinine.
The stop dwi program is seasonal. It is around the holidays, and the summer. It enhances the safety team, which is year round.
Dont ever confuse what this county does in cost cutting with being productivity related.
If that was the case, why isnt there a deputy stop dwi team?
Why did scpd's dwi numbers drop by about 250 for last year compared to years prior? Why did the deputies dwis only go up by about 80 after getting hwy?

Wrong spinner. Scpd hwy was never 80 cops. The most was 40ish. Which was cut to 35. Thats hardly 25%.

There was not 80 cops in the 5 hwy squads, jerky At least not in hwy patrol. The number was around 50, and it was cut several times over the past 3-4 years. When the deps took over it was 35 total among all 5 squads. The deps have 27. Bosses dont normally do dwis. Not when assigned to hwy patrol.
The deps average about .85 of a dwi a day. Scpd hwy patrol, not including any dwi program averaged 1.96 dwis a day.
And it was not 500-600, it was annually 650-750. Even after the dept began cutting cars and cops. The majority of them came after rush hour subsided at night, and there was not much else going on. Remember refusal hearings for mids is a good source of o/t.
I dont know why or where you got 5-600, unless it was on purpose to undercut production. Or to spin...as you put it.
I dont know where you got 80 hwy patrol cops, unless it was for the same

Dwis were never cost effective. There is no profit in arresting people.
Why was stop dwi ended? Why is the gang unit, cope, crime unit, working as relief drivers?
Why isnt there an anti crime task force?
The county is cutting costs. Minimum manpower needed.
It is more important to save money then protect the public.
Thats why
