Deer Park has had 2 invitationals so far this yr it has worked out well with Suffolk aviation helping them out
Anyone wonder why a department that is 3 miles away from the fire did not get sent before other departments that were a distance away. Just a question

It gets to a point that the IC just tell county to hit 6 GI's or so..and County Dispatch or the town Co-ordinator takes over, so not to strip the entire area..dont forget the North Shore Town Co-0ordinater lives around the corner..if its the fire I think you mean so not to strip the entire area..Also do you guys have a Stump Jumper or just a brush mini-pumper..I didnt hear the whole thing cause I was in it..but am surprised you didnt get the call for pumpers to protect the homes..all in all it wasnt really much of a bad deal..as it turned out nearly every GI in Brookhaven Town was called anyway

Hey moron, it's a damn procedure that if you need a stump jumper for a brush fire, you're not going to call a dept. that doesn't have one. And if there is a closer dept that has one, but it's out of service, they're obviously not going to get called. Get over it already. Pissed cause I know more than you do about the service? Too damn bad!!!:">

Still no proof that I'm wrong. I guess that's because I'm not! Do I need to define "prove me wrong" to you? Or should we get someone to read the posts to you so you know what's going on?
So I guess when you go to county school and take your courses, you can't teach them in the future because you're just repeating what you were told? It's a shame for the probies and younger guys in the dept. They're never going to learn anything if you can't tell/teach them what you have been taught.

I never said you were wrong. Your information could be 100% on the mark. But just like when I was in college, and I'm sure you saw it too, a professor who has no practical experience and simply reads from the text book is a poor source of information.
That is what I have been saying to you -- not that your wrong -- but rather, let's hear from experienced personnel, not you repeating what you've heard, and basically being the all knowing cheerleader.
The accuracy of information presented has never been my issue with you!

Just got back from Middle Islands big brush fire..We came out of the woods and who was there right in the middle of the action..getting information and giving us all the tumbs up?
STEVE LEVY!!! Way to go Steve..it means alot when elected officials show their support where it counts at the scene of a big fire or major incident..There should be more like you..
I noticed No LaValle, No McCarrick, No LosQuadro although the fire spread into Rocky Point and the entire fire was in their districts..

the FDs let immature people like you serve in their depts, especially to serve as EMTs.
Fine and dandy, you want info from someone who knows what they're talking about. No matter how you get the info, as long as it's right, you don't have to worry about a damn thing. And yes, I have had professors who read right out of the textbook. And ya know what, I still learned. Those professors that are lively are more enjoyable, but I learned just as much either way. If the info is right, that's all you need to know.
EMT, how did you get your card? Lord do I hope you are not an EMT in any of my nearby FDs. I feel bad for those communities. Yes, I am 21. So? I am an Accounting Executive, not a medical billing clerk, as I have previously stated. Completely different job. Try looking it up and learning something. I must be doing something right to be in my position. And how do you know I don't have a house? Because as a matter of fact, my boyfriend and I share a home, that we own. So yes, I do pay property taxes that support the FDs. And yes, I do give donations to them, as well as various other charities. Do you want to know how much my property taxes are, too? Or better yet, maybe I could scan a copy of them into the forum so you can see the proof. God, you're ridiculous. What does having a husband and children have to do with the topic of FDs? I've been with my boyfriend plenty long; how that matters and why you need to know these things, I don't know. Why don't I have a husband and children, etc? Simply because I have goals, that of which I have worked very hard towards. Why should I give up having a good life to get married and have kids, only to regret not reaching my goals in the future? That's the problem with many of you former "young people"; they screw up too young and end up having unfulfilling lives like you. Then they end up attacking the now "young people" who are actually doing something with their lives. I have nothing to hide.
I have defended the taxpayers many a time on these boards, probably just a smuch as I have defended the volunteers. You won't change me, so go do something with your life and get over me already. Enough is enough.

Just an observation but........
If we did have a paid Suffolk Dept., could you imagine what the over time cost would have been for yesterday ?
Keep in mind it also started going good around the time most emergency services would be changing tours,
meaning multiple crews on the clock.

Its anzing how News12 does this report on The fires and interviews a fire officer on how and why the fires are started...They interviewed a Selden Firefighter..when the fires took place in Middle Island and Rocky Point..If you want insight or want to know what was going on and what may have been the cause why not talk to the FD's that were in command of the fires...oh wait..we ARE talking News12 here...

What, no comment on the piece in Newsday criticizing the tactics employed in the most recent spate of brushfires? Maybe you figured if you ignored it perhaps no one would notice. No, wait, better yet, you all probably just dismissed it as more volunteer bashing by Newsday. I know I've asked this before on another thread, but just why does Newsday dislike the volunteers? Someone tried to explain to me how Newsday is in bed with the FF's unions and is looking to advance their agenda. Nice theory but is'nt it a little inconsistent with the treatment the PD unions have been receiving in the paper lately? How 'bout it guys? Any legitimate defense to the criticism, or are you going to slough it off based on some perceived, but unexplainable, bias.

Ok I'll answer it..I responmded to three of those fires they speak about and maybe I can educate you..
First of all the Volunteer Firefighters are not bulldozer operators and we did not bulldoze the trees down.
Brookhaven Town Fire Co-ordinators in many instances arrive at the scene and they begin calling the rquipment the Chief in charge will or may need.
He also contacts Brookhaven town and the Highway Department rolls the bulldozers out and upon arrival a joint decision is made when how and where to send the bulldozers in.
Obviously you ltjag, like the so called enviromentalists would rather us sit on the road twidle our thumbs and let the fires come to us.
Before YOU critisize us, leave your beachfront Long beach or where ever you come from and come out to the real world of brush fire fighting.
If the bulldozer cut wasnt made in the first fire, there would have been more damage as several homes were in immediate danger.
Its funny, the only person in the article that has any credentials other then the FRES Commissioner and the Middle Island Chief was Dick Amper, head of Suffolk Pine Barrens who actually had no problem with us "doing our job."
But go ahead Jag bash us some more, we have thick skin and can take it.
Newsday can write all they want..but it would be nice if they used actual facts in their stories or even interviewed credible people.

You cut a bulldozer line when there is a fire going good, and you need to get heavier equipment into the woods such as classa pumpers. you do not cut a bulldozer line if there is no fire buring. On state land you are supposed to co-ordinate with the State DEC Fire Warden on the subject of bringing in a bulldozer during a heavy fire that threatens homes etc. so as to make a fire break to protect those homes. Upstate the dec decommisions the FD's as soon as they arrive on the scene of a brush fire, and uses the fd as water tenders, at least down here they don't do that due to 1) Odd jurisdictional control, it's in a fire district protected by blah blah fd and protected by the DEC, 2) Manpower restraints (6 guys and a 100 acre fire raging?) and 3) The FD's would leave to let the DEC bask in the glow of their own hubris.
