What's up with the new city council? Why are condo and coop owners getting a roll back on their taxes? I pay property and school taxes why are these particular homeowners getting a break? When the Council said they would not raise taxes I certainly did not expect taxes to get lowered for homeowner associations? These condo/coop groups have been benefiting from the tax reclassification done by Zapson years ago. It is something that will benefit Goodman. While the budget deficit was overblown by the Coalition it seems there is enough money in the coffer to reduce some property taxes, increase salaries of the City Manager and City Attorney and hire a crew that lunches at 'the Bar." With Scrak working the books for the City does anyone think the deficit is all that real or is that something they can blame on Fat Gene?

How do I apply for a reduction in my prop/school tax?

Anyone can protest a property tax assessment by filing a "tax cert". You can do it with or without a lawyer. Tax cert firms typically do it for 50% of any refund. I've received dozens of solicitation letters so I'm surprised the prior poster doesn't know about the procedure. While a refund is not guaranteed, the reassessment done last year was done in a way that will leave many homeowners with legitimate claims.

If the reassessment was done in such a way that many are due refunds then the City Council and City Manager of Long Beach should take charge and fix the tax problem. It is their responsibility to come up with a workable budget. How can that be done if the tax dollars are reduced and they are giving their cronies higher salaries than their predecessors?

The LB dems are gathering some steam. This current administration is not what the voters expected. The Coalition was successful because they did their homework. They were able to get support from people like Barbara Mosca, James Hodge-kept the afro-amer vote home, fat Mindy W. who fed them information on what the dems were doing and indentified the ineligible democratic voters. Although Mindy did damage to Moriarity by telling everyone his sister Pat is a lush and that Pat destroyed that NUMC nursing home with her creative bookkeeping. It did not keep Moriarity from hiring his sister. It also helped that Moriarity kissed Mrs. Buscemi's ass about naming rights (the LB dems were against it) and it paid off for Moriarity and Buscemi's daughter. Take Goodman off the other lines she ran on and in two years the council should be dem majority. The Coalition is claiming their first 100 days in office is a success. The new members of the Council are no brain trust but to congratulate themselves shows they aren't even on the mentally challenged level. Over time the dem party in LB became insular, the lb GOP is already insular- many find this offensive. The dems are going to reclaim this city.

How low can the Long Beach Democrats go? Apparently, a lot lower!

No Party must really be No Job as one of the many nice but possibly incompetent people who were formerly employed by the City of Long Beach. You remember the old days when you could donate $2,000 to Gene and get someone you know a job with benefits?

The Coalition has been successful on many fronts in the first 100 days cleaning up after the irresponsible party the former Cammarato Dems threw themselves.

The following are submitted as evidence their was no oversight in Long Beach:
1- 22 people receiving benefits despite the fact they were retired or dead.
2-Expensive Insurance provided to all employees despite the fact that most municipalities get their insurance from the Empire plan. Not LB, where it is alleged Gene figured how to get a juicy kickback for choosing them.
3-The Gene/Zapson Overdevelopment Team has been dismantled.
4-City Councilman Denis Kelly estimated that the City of Long Beach had a "$10 million dollar " deficit. Was he wrong? Is it possible that the recent hires are proving to be worth every penny.
5-most damaging is the fact that the New York State Attorney General's Office, the Nassau County District Attoney's Office and the Housing and Urban Development Agency are all investigating the City of Long Beach for wrong doing by City Officials.

Where was the Oversight? Where did the LB Democrats demonstrate by their actions that they cared about the citizens?

The Citizens of LB were duped by foolish LB Democrats who thought they could justify their bad behavior. Now they want to blame the Coaliion. Sorry! It does not work like that fellas.

Only one person of character to challenge Gene? Only Denis Kelly!

Look at all the so-called heavy weights who backed down. you know them. They are sllick talkers who spoke behind Gene's back but never took him on. They didn't have the spine or guts!

This new administration is obviously spinning their stories thinking it will work next time around. Well it will not! Not only was the new unqualified city manager hired at a premium, the corporate counsel choice of Theofan was in poor taste. The rest of their choices for employment leave a lot to be desired. THIS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT WANT ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE! Except for them to keep their promises, WHICH THEY HAVE NOT. In their first four months they broke every campaign pledge made by the Coalition. The scare tactic of the city going broke; well we the voters woke up. There seems to be an abundance of money in the coffers. Pay raises to unqualified people and renovation of city hall. And yes the jobs should have been posted in order to get the most qualified people. However let’s face facts, how else would this administration clean up the streets of LB? Theofan; Marron –treasurer; Rooney-super of public works; Sofield as commissioner (didn’t he once refuse the job?) and Hodge if you what you say is true about stealing then…What qualifications do these people have? Not much to talk about. As I see it this litigious bunch will only encourage more lawsuits against the city- look at Hodge with ANOTHER lawsuit against the LBPD.

As far as Goodman she’s a fool. Only and idiot would brag about heckling then claim ignorance as an excuse for not thinking before speaking. The other two also leave a lot to be desired. While we are supposed to believe we are facing a huge deficit, taxes and all the fees and charges we pay are going up and over development is again an issue. What happened to the city planner- or has the administration not found one of their own for the job? This is a coastal evacuation route, how in an emergency are we going to get off the island when one bridge is semi operable and hundreds more cars are to be added to our over crowded area? The answer to the deficit of this council to allow any development without a proper plan in downright stupid! Financial gurus- NOT! By the way who is going to pay for the clean up of the contaminated land Spiritis wants to sell? I know give everyone a raise, sell more land and then increase our taxes.

Big Mr. C. would have been a better city manager than the old Dr. He sure has a hell of a lot more experience. Director of Operations for 4 years, Asst. City Manager for about what...14 yrs? Worked for the city all in all about 30 I guess...And the Dr., on the other hand- worked for the city for what...2 yrs, was fired for misappropriation of funds, then went to the VOH, was Dir. Of Community Development- what a community that is- people are just DYING to get into that community! You could wonder why he left that "gem" to come to the "City By The Sea."
Gene actually ran the city, knows each department, planned the budgets, and since everyone says he was the brains behind the council, I guess we have to give him the credit behind everything.
What did Spritis do in his 8 months of tenure, besides making more $$$ than his predecesors, and what is the financial mess the city is facing just in the 8 months that he was there? Suozzi's boy, Legislator Abrahams wants to condemn buildings because they are vacant, and while smiling for the television camera crew, there as his request, and standing in front of the homes he wishes to see knocked down, doesn't even know hard working middle class people without cushy Suozzi jobs own those homes and work long hours to keep them. One woman is quoted as chastising the Suozzi administrator by saying they should be trying to help the poor working class people in Nassau County fix their homes, instead of trying to condemn them. Newsday then tell the New Cassel story as though it's a good thing. The "TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD" , i.e. a Tom Suozzi Instrumentality, is giving summons' out to all the poorest people living in Nassau County, in New Cassell, to fix up the homes they are struggling to keep, and threatening, if you don't, we will. Not for free or not through some community development (or as they like to call it in Great Neck - redevelopment) program but for a profit. We will do it with our own politically related contractors, and then just bill you. And when you can't pay the bill, we're going to come and condemn your property. And then we'll sell it and add the money we stole from you, the taxpayers, to the Revenue side of the budget and give Suozzi some excellent looking statistics to shove down your throats during campaign time. Ok maybe a questionable bar fight that does happen. Fighting with the police is not questionable. Good people dont mess with peoples lives when it gomes to earning a living and raising a family because one disagress with ones political views.
