A Mastic Beach man compounded his problems after he was arrested early Friday on a drunken driving charge: he then tried to bribe the arresting officer, Suffolk police said.
Andrew Connor, 34, of One Maple Place, was pulled over by a Suffolk SAFE-T Section cop on the south Sunrise Highway service road in Patchogue at 2 a.m., police said.
Then, as Officer Robert Mudzinski was driving him to the Fifth Precinct station house, Connor offered the officer money in exchange for dropping the drunken-driving charge, police said.
"He says, 'I got $2,000 to give you to let me go," said Det. Sgt. Daniel Molloy of Suffolk's Fifth Detective Squad.
Things to do this weekend Mudzinski's one-word response, according to Molloy?
"No."
With that, Connor was slapped with a bribery charge.
Connor, who Molloy said refused to take a chemical test to measure intoxication, was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip on charges of DWI and third-degree bribery.
