If the Dems become strong in Hempstead, then N. Hempstead and Oyster Bay weaken...they don't want a strong Hempstead built up..

There may be some truth that the North Hempstead democrats do not want a strong dem party in Hempstead, as that would weaken the influence of the party apparatus in that Town. Don't necessarily agree regarding Oyster Bay, where the Dems do not hold sway; the Reps control that Town, regardless of where Suozzi and Jay Jacobs live. I believe most Dems want a strong Hempstead apparatus because a strong Dem party in the world's largest Town would solidfy Dem control in Nassau. But that may be threatening to some petty Dem politicians from North Hempstead.

The party brain trust still consists of N. Hempstead guys like Gerard Terry and . This guy couldn't get out of there own way to get dinapoli elected. the bottom line is that Hempstead is the biggest voting block of any municipality in the country. The dem leadership doesn't seem to get it...

Oh, but it is that simple. A strong Party that can get folks jobs and favors takes away from the power of the elected official. The party serves to collect soft money for priority elected officials. The last thing that Souzzi wants is a Democratic "Mondello" who he owes favors and who can challenge his leadership.

Yes, the GOP gets it all right: corruption, nepotism, cronyism, huge debt service, running the County into the ground. Just what is it that they "get"? The Republicans are not going to gain any ground in the county legislature this year. And that's fine with me. The local GOP is all about rewarding their own and trying desperately to hold onto power that is waning, rapidly. And permanently. Good riddance.

It's very simple, Story. Great campaign. Mediocre government. Same politician. Different handler. The difference, a very cunning political operative at the helm. Besides, Kim Devlin was very well compensated for political advice and campaign services. Can those who were "annoyed" by her say the same?

Her relationship with co-workers and volunteers was awful. Obviously, after the Suozzi campaign she went to work on a Kennedy campaign and they wouldn't take her crap and dumped her fast.

Maybe I am wrong then. Perhaps, the real reason why the campaign was great, and the government mediocre is not attributable at all to Ms. Devlin, but the fact that Tom's campaign came from the heart and from the people. Perhaps, the reality of One West Street, and its imported New York City bureaucrats, killed the dream. Public servants serve below the people, not above them. I do not see the love in this government.
